LIVED COMMUNION WITH GOD
27/05/24 07:49
Douglas Campbell writes, “Our good —is to commune with God and with one another. It follows, then, that if we are heading for a good communion, we get there by pursuing a good communion here and now.
NOTE THE TRINITY
“The end of good communion, imprinted by the Trinity, is also our means. It's as simple-and as difficult—as this. We can probably see immediately that effecting this communion will now break down into two closely related but distinguishable activities.
DEEPEN THE COMMUNION
“We should deepen the communion of those who are already acknowledging and living explicitly out of it. And we should try to reach people who are currently turned away from God, drawing them back into the communion with God and with one another for which they have always been destined.” (1)
LIVE THE CHRISTIAN GOSPEL
We write these posts to ‘deepen the communion’ with Christ of those who are already living in Christianity. This is because of partial gospels, and distorted gospels that are really ‘no gospel at all’, as Paul warns. They deny the fullness that is ours in Christ and help to create paddocks of tares. Tares are Believers who could be alive but are not – because they have accommodated themselves to popular ‘other gospels’ that diminish the light and the life announced in the prologue to the book of John.
GOOD COMMUNION
Know what the real Gospel is and you will grow into your real self. Danille Shroyer writes, “The gospel is not a story of us being separated by sin from God. It’s the story of a God who is so faithfully for us and intent on being with us that God became human to help us embody the wholeness and fullness of life we’ve been made for. It’s not a story of separation. It’s a story of invitation and participation.” (2) You can live in separation or in participation. But only in the latter will you be alive and a Life-Giver. This is the ‘Good Communion’ that is here and now.
