YOU ARE THE EXPRESSION OF GOD AS A SON OF GOD

In the enterprise of God, we have been joined to God as daughters and sons in a similar relationship of Jesus to Father and in the same kind of relationship that each member of the trinity enjoys with each other. Oneness is the nature of who God is. In Christ God is part of us and we are part of God. Woven into God in this manner we are closer to God than we were before the fall.

PERICHORESIS

This communion is called perichoresis. We are one with God which makes us wholly ourselves and entirely Godly. This oneness that we have been drawn into in Christ is ours on account of Jesus.

NEW CREATION

When in Ephesians Paul writes, ‘And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth’ (Eph 1.10 NIV), this ‘everything together’ is the essence of who Jesus is, who the trinity is and what the creation is becoming in the person of Jesus Christ. In Christ the communion of life is more than people. It includes animals, all forms of life and the earth itself. There is nothing holy, enlightened or righteous about religion that is dismissive of the earth or careless about the matter of killing the earth for monetary gain. If killing people is venal, killing the earth is worse.

RECONCILIATION

In the 4th century, Arius and his followers assembled a battery of scriptural passages that appear to confirm that the Son/Word was a creature … But according to Irenaeus, ‘The Arians were “ignorant” of the “scope of faith which Christians hold, and using it as a rule, apply themselves [erroneously] . . . to reading the inspired Word.” (1) A perversion of interpretation just as serious has been committed in modern times in which moralism - aka, the law - has been made the preoccupation of Christianity when the truth is that that the issue is the complete trustworthiness of Father and the certainty of our belonging in the fellowship of the trinity.

The issue is you are included in God. The issue for many Christians is, will we live in the oneness of this incarnated communion with God or will many of us continue to make religion out of overcoming a separation from God that has not existed since the cross.

Separation has been done away with in Christ. The cross unites all that exists in the communion that is God. The reconciliation of human beings with God has been effected in Christ and the reconciliation of the Earth is to be effected by human beings who are in the process of being re-made in the divine nature.

PARTAKERS OF GOD

“The Holy Spirit.. plays a vital role in Torrance’s account of the reconciling exchange and theosis*: ‘for to have the Spirit dwelling in us is to be made partakers of God beyond ourselves. This is made possible through the atoning exchange that took place in the incarnation’. Through the presence of the Holy Spirit we are ‘deified’, our humanity is lifted up beyond itself into Christ and enjoys a new fullness of human life in blessed communion with the divine. This is a result of what the Spirit accomplished in the life of the incarnate Son. Through Jesus Christ the Spirit descended upon a man and effected the union between human and divine nature. The Holy Spirit is now mediated to believers by and through the humanity of Christ who sanctified himself in the Spirit so that we might be sanctified in him.” (2)

NOT A SECOND BLESSING

Holy Spirit anointing has no independent life of its own and is in fact a function of the incarnation – so much so that if we choose not to live from the incarnation, and make a separate thing of the Spirit, the anointing will have no root and even become perverse in its effects. Life in the Spirit is not life in the gifts. Life in the Spirit is Christ our life. It’s the oneness already ours lived as Christ come in our flesh. We are not in the Spirit if we are in the law because the law has no part in the Kingdom Jesus began. The Kingdom Jesus began is literally those who believe Christ and as a result are enfolded in the Communion that is the Trinitarian God.
