Because of Jesus Christ, you are included in God and made one in communion with the triune God - because God has put you there in Christ. You have oneness with God as your starting point.

Jeff McSwain, following Barth observes that which should be the basis of every Christian’s ‘being’ and life. “In Jesus Christ there is no isolation of man from God or of God from man. Rather, in Him we encounter the history, the dialogue, in which God and man meet together and are together, the reality of the covenant mutually contracted, preserved and fulfilled by them.

Jesus Christ is in His one Person, as true God, man’s loyal partner, and as true man, God’s. He is the Lord humbled for communion with man and likewise the Servant exalted to communion with God. He is the Word spoken from the loftiest, most luminous transcendence and likewise the Word heard in the deepest darkest immanence. He is both, without their being confused but also without their being divided.” (1)

We are made one with God by God.

Oneness with God is not earned – at least not by you. Union with God is ours on account of Christ. You are not holy because you have done stuff. You are Godly because you are part of God. ‘Realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you’ John 14.20. This a state of being that is more real than any attempt of ours to earn acceptance with God. We are one with God on account of the Christ of God. Not because of things we have done.
