Truth is not truth when our being is separated from God. It is merely information on the spectrum of the knowledge of good and evil. Out of separation grows an epistemology of non-life. It sucks the life out of life – as can be seen when we purvey the anointing and gifts of the Spirit without the new covenant oneness that is ours, thus robbing ourselves of spirit and life.
Since the cross no-one is separated from God – except in their minds - when captured by a legalistic mindset. In the beginning, Satan suggested an alternative narrative, acceptance of which became the fall. He suggests a similar narrative today – the extension of the old covenant beyond the time. This continues the mindset of the fall even though we are risen in Christ. Setting captives free from a subverted gospel is a top priority today as it was with Jesus and His Message.
‘The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free’ Luke 4.18 NIV.
BELONG IN THE TRUTH
Thomas Torrance asserts the need to be one with God’s revelation of Himself and of us. “The correlation of human understanding with divine revelation was.. brought about by revelation itself, both through God’s incarnate revealing of himself in his Son and through the pouring out of his Spirit upon the disciples and apostles to actualise that revelation and reconciliation within the mind of the Church which Christ united to himself as his Body, ‘the earthly-historical form of his own existence’. And so through the Communion of the Holy Spirit, the eternal Spirit of the Father and of the Son, the Church was drawn within the circle of God’s revealing of himself through himself and given to share in God’s knowing of himself.” (1)
Torrance is citing the fact of the atonement and incarnation; the reality of our one substance with God as sons of God that has been achieved in real time.
And as well as this the importance of the revelatory instruction by the Spirit so that this truth of our achieved union with God was embedded in the disciples, the Church Fathers, the Council of Nicaea and the church that propagated the teaching of Jesus and the apostles doctrine.
This protects us from gibberish taught as Christian doctrine and the kind of membership in the Body of Christ that lacks genuine content on account of the fact that we have joined ourselves to a different gospel.
