The lie that began The Fall is the insinuation that God cannot be trusted to make us who we are, which is to say that we will be less than we are if we trust Father to be who Father is. The supporting lie is that we become godly (as Gods) on our own – by separation. The attitude sown into and common in many minds in the Christian Church is that we remain separated from God and that it is our job to earn, position, and discipline ourselves to gain the union with God that we already possess in Christ. When Jesus cried, ‘It is finished’ our separation was finished and our oneness with God lost at the fall was restored. So are you living in the resurrected Christ or the fall extended beyond the time. This is a most subtle darkness.

A woman told Jeff once that he had to master sin in order to enjoy intimacy with Christ. A man told Bill that if he ‘cleaned himself up’ he would experience more of God. Both sayings were well-meant but a lie. Nothing can separate you from the love of God writes Paul. The love of God is the presence of God. God is love. The atoning cross has made us one with God. We are part of this oneness not by doing stuff. But agreeing with Christ that He has gained the oneness for us that He prayed for in John 17. Start from this position and you will grow.

Any gospel that promotes steps to Christ by self-effort is not a gospel of Jesus and the apostles.

A variation on separationism is a program of making ourselves worthy of Christ in order to be accepted by Christ. It’s a commonly held attitude and it is humbug. You are worthy because Christ’s worthiness is yours. Live in this truth and you will grow in righteousness and grace.

Baxter Kruger, following Calvin, Barth and Thomas Torrance writes, “The assumption of separation is the great darkness.” .. Then, you see, we have to find our way to God. The Greeks offer their way through their minds; the Pharisees offer theirs through external rules. This is [Satan’s] chief trick—blind us to how close the Lord is, closer than breath: we’re in him, and he’s in us. [Satan] deceives the nations by one lie—separation.” (1)

The deceit that caused the fall of the human race did more than precipitate us into sin. It worked a terrible slander on Father and on ourselves. It is not for nothing that Satan is called the Father of Lies. Our falling for his deceit warped our Father in our minds and confused our sense of self and our sense of right-doing. The insidious effect of these self-multiplying lies has targeted identity: The identity of God and the identity of the sons and daughters of God. Distort both and we warp the reality in which we live.

This warping of the truth has been called ‘the great darkness’ for a reason. This mixture of light with darkness is diabolically effective because it lies about reality. It pollutes the source of truth and produces a crooked narrative that results in crooked and broken people. It manufactures a law of sin and death.

The groaning creation writhes and groans because our Father has been tarred with the brush of malevolence and we have been seduced into thinking we are far less than we are. This precipitated the fall and it remains the ploy to sustain its effects in place.

We should understand that if we are still living from the law we are still living from the fall – even though our inheritance is resurrection: The is fall undone.

Every heresy, each perverted gospel has one reason for being. Whether it comes from a theologian, a university, a prophet or a denomination, the aim is to thwart the design of creation and undo the effect of the cross.

What is the effect of the cross?

That we and Father are one; that we have fellowship with the trinity, that we belong in the Holy Family, that we are the sons and daughters of God destined to recreate the earth.

What avalanche of deception did Adam’s fall precipitate? C Baxter Kruger describes it well. When the Original Pair perceives their nakedness, “The Father’s face will be forever tarred with an alien brush, and His heart, His beauty, His goodness, will be misunderstood. Our darkened imagination will recreate the Father’s character in its own image. Our shame will disfigure the Father’s heart. The projections of our fear will rewrite the rules of His care. He will continue to bless us beyond our wildest dreams, but in our mythology we will see His gifts and hear “I am not acceptable” confirmed.

The very presence of the Lord in love and grace and fellowship will be translated through the fallen mind and perceived as the presence of One who is at best cold, detached and indifferent, and at worst the great critic, the judge quick to condemn, whose judgmental, watching spirit haunts every room in the universe.” (2)

We need to know that we cannot be competent ministers of spirit and life from an old covenant mindset. So what is the role of the person who is competent as a minister of the new covenant?

As a harbinger of revelation an apostolic person reveals the truth about God, makes plain the truth has been revealed and let lose by the cross; accurately describes and proclaims the consequences of Christ’s victory and establishes Believers in the truth of who they are in Christ. By declaring the truth the apostolic teacher engages in the demolition of lies. An apostolic teacher is simply one whose being is found in God.

But ministers of life are more than un-doers of lies. Alive themselves in Christ their life they are the life of God and as such are a living word in the manner of Jesus. By living in the new covenant mindset – our truth of being – we are one with Christ, one with His relationship with Father and Holy Spirit and one with ourselves and each other. We are in the living realm of healing and life.
