THE ROBUST IDENTITY IN CHRIST

identify77.001
As we progress in Christ, we may come to the realisation that the reason for Christianity is not Christianity. The reason is the realisation of the self as a son/daughter of God. First base is to know that you are included in God. Second base is to agree that you are in the fellowship of the Father to be grown into a son/daughter of God. But you are grown by incarnation. Never by the law. Law gospels and their fellow travellers are ‘different gospels’ and counterfeits of the genuine. The real gospel has always been Christ come in our flesh. Any denial of this by implication or direct teaching comes from the spirit of antichrist.

This is why those who are currently teaching that to see Christ is to see your true self are purveyors of the original message of Christ our life. Not all by any means come to this realisation. They spend their entire lives engaged in ‘righteousness mastery’ and ‘sin management’ and a result never become more than a phantom of their true selves.

BELONGING IS IT

You can make a life out of the attempt at ‘not sinning’ but it’s not a full life. Sin is not the preoccupation of God, even though He has dealt with it. Including you in His Communion is His vision for sons and daughters. His passion is to enjoy you company for eternity and infuse you with the kind of life that is His.

SHARING CHRIST’S BEING

Myk Habets, writing of Thomas Torrance’s concept of Godliness observes, “
For Torrance .. justification means more than the non-imputation of our sins through the pardon of Christ, but in its place a positive sharing in his divine-human righteousness. Sanctification is correlative with justification so that to receive the one is to receive the other.” Justification and sanctification are ours because Christ has incorporated us into Himself.

EFFECT OF UNION

By viewing justification and sanctification as the result of our intimate union with Christ, Torrance shows his commitment to a deeper integrative motif at work behind his soteriology, ordering it, controlling it, and directing it to its ultimate object – Jesus Christ himself. That integrative motif has to do with the participation of believers in the True Man, Jesus Christ, and through Christ with God the Father (in the Holy Spirit). In short, it has to do with theosis.”

CONTRADICTION OF THE LAW

In Christ, we participate in Christ. In the law we participate in separation from Christ while attempting to earn union. Avoid all kinds of Christian variations on the knowledge of good and evil and its self-effort. You will not become Godly and you will not become you via the law – only a pale religious shadow of what you could have been had Christ been your life.
