God has never tried to be something other than what He is. Neither should you. What you are is a son/daughter. First by creation. Then by redemption. God is so Himself He is I AM. So as a redeemed son/daughter are you. Be yourself. Do so in Jesus. He is your life. But with Him manifesting His Spirit through you, you become who you were born to be: A son manifesting the life of our Father.
‘On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you’ John 14.20.
Spirit and life shared into the world are the result of our being. Our being sons.
CHRIST OUR LIFE
Should we live as a manifestation of our religion we are a dull, shrouded figure compared to who and what we would be if we lived Christ as our life.
The Kingdom of God is not ‘doing.’ It’s not even by nature doing good and avoiding evil. It’s being a son, being a daughter, being participants in the life of the trinity that is God. This is the difference between the church Jesus builds and the church man builds. By rights the church should be a tapestry woven from the being of God and the being of ourselves so that we are one fabric by the One Spirit. Recently I wrote this to a friend after a time of rich fellowship
‘Our spirits and souls are hugely boosted by the friendship of you both. If only more Believers could enjoy this kind of friendship, the Kingdom would power along. Such friendship is what Jesus means by the church.’
Our two families believe that Christ is our life. We not only believe this. We explore it, live it and exult in its quiet comfort. This is real for us: ‘You will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you’ John 14.20. This companionship with God and each other is not ours because we are some elite. It’s ours because it belongs to everyone. If Believers could know and live Christ our life we would be different as individuals and different as the church. Such ‘difference’ comes not from the anointing, spiritual gifts or any religious ploy. It comes because the fullness of God expresses itself as you.
God’s Kingdom is not religion. It is relationship and life. In such a life we live in , experience and are able to pass on the love of God.
There’s a difference between the knowledge of good and evil and a life in God. The former is religion. The latter is you and Father are one. This difference is the gift of God that is eternal life on a daily basis. It’s being sons and daughters of God. Charles Ringma writes, “So we try to do more while our energies ebb away and we become like uprooted trees with our roots wildly groping for the sky. Thus, we anxiously throw our arms toward heaven, praying for extra grace and special enabling, when instead we should he planted again in nourishing soil. That soil is not meant to make us do less, but to change our priorities so that we take time to be still. And in the stillness, find new strength and hope.” (1)
This stillness, strength and hope is the solidity that is yours planted in the soil of your union, your fellowship and belongingness in God. You have it. It is gifted to you and can never be taken away from you. God is love. You have been drawn into this fellowship of the trinity. You belong here, marinated in His love and belonging. Live from where He has embraced and placed you. This is His glory and is also yours.
