THE BASIC LIE EXPOSED
The effect of the basic lie is separation. God has come to us in Jesus. Jesus has received us into His life. Jesus is your oneness with God. You have oneness with God. This is your starting point in living a Godly life.
ALL TIME IS SACRED BECAUSE ALL LIFE IS SACRED
Normal life is not separate from God. Fun things are not separate from our life in God. One of the disasters of Western Christian Thought is the separation of sacred and secular. But have no fear, God has no interest in drawing us into a non-human relationship. The Trinitarian life has been given to us to express life and Godliness through our humanity in our living. Any expectation that implies that you must leave your humanity behind to be ‘godly’ did not come from God.
‘And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth’ Eph 1.10 The right time is now and not yet.
What is the right time? The right time occurred when Jesus cried, ‘It is finished!’ What was finished? The separation between God and human beings. The ‘right time’ is also today as you realise that you are in God and God is in you. The right time is all the time since Christ has come in you.
Perceived separation is a lie. God has come to us in Jesus. Jesus has received us into His life. You do not exist alone. You exist ‘with.’ You are in company with the trinity. Abandon the your project of steps to Christ. Christ has taken steps to come to you. He has drawn you into God in Himself.
Rest for human restlessness is a person and a state of being. It is Christ in you and with you. Rest is never somewhere else, not contained in a special building or on one day of the week and not in the other days. Rest is Christ your life. You are incarnated with rest - rest from self-vindication and rest in the knowledge that you are received in Christ and you are alive with God’s spirit and life.
Much of the distortion of ‘pious holiness’ is sourced in Neo-Platonism that expresses the idea that matter is bad and only spirit is good. This notion is embedded in many religions and in writings from which some religious communities have grown. Such sources are clearly pained about humanity - particularly sexuality that gives rise to a perverse emphasis on ‘purity’ and the sacralisation of prudery.
Holiness is not legal adherence as the Romans would have it. Holiness is the joy of flourishing relationship. The deepest truth of our lives is that we are included in the relationship of the trinity.
Jesus is in relationship to the Father, to the Spirit and to the whole creation. The result for us is that in Jesus we are united to God and to life in its fullness. Jesus brought this fullness into our world and into our lives. Because He lives in you and is actually your life all this is your inheritance.
Sin is more subtle and embedded than we may think. Sin is inventing our own gospel and disagreeing with what God has done in Jesus. Sin is denying that we belong. Sin is living in separation to God when God has made us one with Himself. Sin is compartmentalising life and thinking we have created holiness. Sin is making up one’s own grace. sSin is diluting or adding to the gospel of Jesus and the apostles and inventing our own way, our own perspective and our own gospel of our kingdom.
You do not exist alone. You exist ‘with.’
Rest for human restlessness is a person and a state of being. It is Chris in you and with you. Rest is never somewhere else, not contained in a special building or on one day of the week and not in the others. Rest is Christ your life. You are incarnated with rest - the rest from self-vindication and the rest that you are good in Christ and you are alive.
