SIMPLE AND UNIVERSAL
We are not on our own relating to God. Jesus is our mediator not as a word but as a reality and state of being. We relate to God in Christ and to Christ in Jesus. Oneness with God in every respect is ours in Jesus.
When Jesus promised to be in us and with us, He was referring to this fact. Our oneness with Himself and the Holy Family is Jesus Christ.
CHRIST OUR UNION AND RIGHTEOUSNESS
While you are an independent person you are not separated from Christ. You don’t have to earning worthiness with Christ before you can be one with God. Christ is an ever-living joiner of you to Himself and God. You are united to Him in His person.
THE VICARIOUS HUMANITY OF CHRIST
Thomas Torrance writes in The Mediation of Christ, “In worship and prayer Jesus Christ acts in our place and on our behalf in both a representative and a substitutionary way so that what he does in our stead is nevertheless effected as our very own, issuing freely and spontaneously out of ourselves. Through his incarnational and atoning union, Jesus Christ has united himself with us in such a reconciling and sanctifying way that he interpenetrates and gathers up all our faltering, unclean worship and prayer into himself, assimilates them to his one self-oblation to God, so that when he presents himself as the worship and prayer of all creation, our worship and prayer are presented there also.”
ALREADY IN HIM
We are positioned in Christ by relationship. Not a relationship that we have to earn but a relationship that we can flourish in without worry or stress. Before the fall, Adam and Eve enjoyed a continuous Sabbath with God. Jesus is your Sabbath rest in person. All humans can enjoy an interwoveness with God continuously in Jesus Christ. This does not happen because you ate the bread and drank the wine. The Lord’s Table is the reminder of His incarnation in you and that you are one in body and spirit with Jesus.
