The new wineskin Jesus spoke of was not salvation as such, not a new way of doing the law and not a new way of the doing the Old Testament with a ‘Jesus boost’. His Way is not the era of the knowledge of good and evil amended. Neither is it a Jesus invigorated moralism. Neither is it religion. It is the triune God as you and as us. This is why the notion of rubbing Holy Spirit oil into the law and old covenant is a fundamental error. This is a misunderstanding so great that it is a failure to come to grips with our inheritance in the cross.
If the original lie consisted in a sly misrepresentation of God - the truth in Christ is that the fundamental representation of who God is Jesus Christ – the light of the world as opposed to the darkness of hell. By lending our weight to twisted gospels and thinking to persuade God to align with gospels of our own making, we oppose the light and add our support to lies both gross and subtle. Thus, we become purveyors of the spirit of anti-christ and the degrees of death that cling to those who ignore Christ their life.
False gospels may turn pastors into politicians and administrators into mediocrities who work as blind leaders of some who can see. ‘Seeing’ and how to see is the state of being one with Christ, with Christ come in our flesh, particularly in our eyes.
Christ our life is a way, a truth and a life that is radically different to the varied socialisations we have been subject to in the knowledge of good and evil. This ‘knowledge’ is a culture and a spirit that insinuates itself wherever we suppose that Christ our life is not enough, and we must add something of our own. Thus good people become infected with a virus that debilitates their spirit and cripples their soul – often without their knowledge because they cannot see and because they have never seen with the eyes of their heart. Altered gospels dim spiritual eyes, preventing our seeing Light.
We are not cut off from light unless we choose to be. Even then we are prone to a rescue by grace that enters on account of hard times or astonishing love. Don’t be among those who spend their entire lives in a bent gospel, who at last get healed by truth when they enter paradise with Christ. There’s merit in being a life-giver in this life.
You can resist divine revelation if we choose. RESIST IT because we are stubbornly wed to your own gospel that is your OTHER HUSBAND who is not Christ. If we do you will be a blind leader of the blind.
‘But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God's curse!’ GAL 1.8 NIV.
Revelation will come to all who genuinely follow where Jesus leads. Thomas Torrance writes, “
By its very nature divine revelation is what Karl Barth called ‘a self-contained novum’, for it has its reality and truth wholly and in every respect within itself, and so can be known only through itself and out of itself, on its own ground and through the power of its own self-evidence and self-authentication. It is as such that revelation proceeds from God to man, breaking sovereignly into human life and thought, calling into question what people claim to know, and directing their thinking beyond themselves altogether.
It creatively evokes an entirely new mode of consciousness, in faith and understanding, conditioned by a new relation to God initiated and set up, not from man’s side at all, but from the other side of the boundary between man and God. The knowledge of God given in this way through divine revelation is not from the known to the unknown, but from the hitherto unknown to the known.” (1)
We call this walking in the Light as an agent of Christ and His New Creation.
