The new creation was guaranteed when Jesus cried, ‘It is finished!’ The new creation was established when Jesus rose from the dead. Christ was multiplied in people when the Spirit descended at Pentecost. You are the expression of Christ because God is incarnated in you. This is your Lord’s Table life and your Easter Life.

When Paul wrote the words, ‘Christ our life’ he was indicating that our life in the micro and macro is the manifestation of Jesus and through Jesus the expression of the trinity in Believers.

To talk trinity is to talk God and relationship – the archetype of all human relationship and arguably
the fabric of the physical realm. Thus when John refers to Jesus Christ as The Word, by which he means the logos, he is pointing to the living meaning and purpose of the cosmos – the One of whom Paul refers to as ‘the law of the spirit of life’. At base, reality is not an abstraction. Reality is a person which is why Paul can say, ‘reality is Christ’ and ‘In Him we live and move and have our being.’

Thus, if we personally feel we need to get a grip on reality a good place to start is to get one on one with Jesus and repent of living from the insulating, deadening effect of religion. Christian religion is just as soporific as any religion.
There is nothing that is superior to Christ and the trinity. This communion is the Source of all life. It is the pattern in which we are one with God. Jesus is the Way in which we are made to share in His relationship with Father and Holy Spirit. Jesus is the Way in which we relate to Him in freedom and joy.
Thomas Torrance writes, “
Jesus Christ God reveals himself through himself and as he is in himself, the ultimate ground upon which our knowledge of Jesus Christ himself and of God’s self-revelation through Christ rests becomes disclosed as trinitarian.
It is thus that the doctrine of Christ and the doctrine of the Holy Trinity belong intrinsically and inseparably together, and are to be coordinated in any faithful account of them. While the Lord Jesus Christ constitutes the pivotal centre of our knowledge of God, God’s distinctive self-revelation as Holy Trinity, One Being, Three Persons, creates the overall framework within which all Christian theology is to be formulated.
Understandably, therefore, the doctrine of the Holy Trinity has been called the innermost heart of Christian faith and worship, the central dogma of classical theology, the fundamental grammar of our knowledge of God.”
To understand what Torrance has written is to understand the gospel of the Kingdom, the pattern of its constituent parts and to realise that it is a state of being more than a statement of belief. ‘Realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you’ John 14.20.
Torrance refers to a gospel that is personal, communal, alive and inclusive. It is a gospel of individuality and community, of oneness and uniqueness, based on the love of God in which the sacrifice of God was deemed preferable to the sacrifice of His sons and daughters.
God is never going to demand his pound of flesh. He gave His own flesh in order than we might participate in His Spirit of fellowship, life and light. Thus in Christ is life and that light is the light of humanity.
The Gospel depicted here is the Gospel of the Kingdom, known also as the apostles teaching. This is the original and only valid rendition of the Gospel. It’s the one that draws us into the life of God through the person of Jesus while filling us to overflowing with the Christ and the indwelling trinity.
Tied to the law we are tied to
this body of death.
Our life in God has nothing to with the law and everything to do with Christ in us, Christ joining us to the life of God and Christ being our Door to participation in the life of the trinity. Any genuine gospel is not Christ and the law but Christ as the One in whom we are one with God. This is the consequence of the atonement and the incarnation which we know as ‘life in the Spirit’ – the new testament way of being one with God and being holy as God is holy.
But holiness is not piety or religion. It is Christ our life.
