I visited a large Buddhist temple in Thailand once. Our guide was gracious in his explanation of his religion to those who were probably Christians or just secular Westerners.

You may have noticed that there are people who live fruitful lives who are not fundamentalists, evangelicals or overtly Christian ‘Doers’. They just are. Are what? Themselves. People can be filled with Christ even if they do not know His name. It’s called incarnation. Some will not see His face until the next life and then admit to the Lord that they half suspected Him all along.

Significantly the kind of religion absorbed in ‘being’ is attractive to the busy and often frazzled Western Believer and non-Believer. I noticed that the ambience was very peaceful. There was not the emphasis on ‘doing’ that was apparent in the charismatic church I was attending. It was about ‘being.’ Not surprisingly many folks just want to be who they really are – and are conscious that when they are motivated by the categories and the law, they are not being their ‘real selves.’ None can be until Christ is our life.

We are able to advance into our real selves without religion.

Genuine spirituality is about ‘being.’ Significantly Paul quoted what many wise people already knew. That in God we live and move and have our being. The son of man is God in fullness. Which means that in Jesus we are in God. Not only is this union by the One Spirit. It means fellowship with the trinity. To be in fellowship with the Trinity is to be growing into the Real You.

God is wholeness and oneness in Himself. The trinity is the real nature of God. Don’t be side-tracked by ‘oneness’ notions that deny the reality of three persons. The words ‘God is love’ are not an abstraction. They are a reality because of the love that flows without measure in the relationship of the trinity.

The paradox is that when one with God we are one with ourselves. One with God we live in the constant revelation of who God is and the revelation and nurturance of who we are. God’s glory is to be Himself and so is yours. God’s glory is to enjoy the expression of you as His daughter or son.

God is received by all who will have Him. The bonus is that although we can be said to ‘received by Christ, the truth is that we have already been received into Him and His Fellowship. This is the result of the cross.

Incarnation has always been a pattern with God. Non-believers can sense the joy of God’s Presence in places like Yosemite. The Person of God was manifest in Jesus of Nazareth. John asserts that Jesus is the One in whom the world finds its meaning and purpose.

Paul declared under the Spirit of Revelation in Col 1.15-18. ‘The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.’

When Jesus is our life all this is our life. We are participants in the creation that “holds together and finds its purpose in Him.”

But wait. There’s more. The Son of God was not only incarnated in Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus of Nazareth is incarnated in you.

Your expression of the divine image is the result of this fact. The things you touch as ‘Jesus multiplied’ are imbued with life that flows from the trinity, through you into all you are and all you do. That’s if we are living in God and not in religion or the law or some peculiar perspective of our own. Don’t insulate yourself from your interwoveness with God by layers of your own devising or by sediments of doctrine that dilute the power of the cross.

The incarnation is the key fact of the new testament and the foundation of the new creation. This is the ‘why’ of the anointing and the cause of the spirit without limit in you and in the church. The ‘why’ of the Kingdom of God is that you and our Father are one.

So, you are not in God because you are in church. Or worshiping on a holy day. Or engaged in some rite. Or doing praise and worship. Worship is a life. You have a holy life. You are holy because Father is Holy and you are His daughter/son. God is woven into your being. Don’t dilute your inheritance with humbug. Live as the manifestation of Jesus, our Father and Holy Spirit.

“Presence is experienced in a participative way, outside the mind. The mind by nature is intent on judging, controlling, and analysing instead of seeing, tasting, and loving. This is exactly why it cannot be present or live in the naked now. The mind wants a job and loves to process things. The key to stopping this game is, quite simply, peace, silence, or stillness. This was always seen as God’s primary language.” (1)

Spirit and life is never information or knowledge. Then again it is never misinformation about God or about yourself and The Plan. Spirit and life is the life and personhood of the trinity flowing through you because you and Father are one.
