There are no instructions to keep the law in the new testament. When the law is mentioned it is in the context that it cannot be kept in reference to the letter with the implication that the law can only be kept in oneness with Jesus.
Jesus says. ‘“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart’ Matt 5.27-28.
IT'S NOT JUST WORDS ON STONE
Not only is the standard high, but the nature of sin is to do with our being – which means that Jesus is presenting Himself as the Way to be the New Us.
Yet Jesus is not re-invigorating the law. Jesus is not presenting Himself as an ingenious way to keep the law. By transcending the law Jesus eliminates it and replaces it with Himself alive in us. This is Jesus come in our flesh; Jesus is alive in us so that His Spirit manifests as our flesh – our spirit, soul and body.
KNOW WHAT LIFE IN THE SPIRIT IS
This is life in the Spirit. Life in the Spirit is not the gifts welded onto the law and old covenant as some think. Life in the Spirit is your life in oneness with God. Fruits of the Spirit and the Gifts are the result of this indwelling. We are the ‘branches’ because we are in the Vine who is part of the trinity.
WORD MADE FLESH
Thus is to be expected that “The Synoptic Gospels do not speak directly of the Love of God the Father – in fact there is only one passing reference to ‘the love of God’. But they do speak powerfully of the Love of God in its concrete embodiment and manifestation in the self-giving love and compassion of Jesus for the sick and the suffering, the weary and the heavy laden, the poor and the destitute .. sinners.” (1)
This indicates that LOVE IS NOT SOME ABSTRACTION. Love is God manifesting Himself as Jesus Christ. No element of righteousness and eternal life is an abstraction. It is the who of God and who we are.
This is to say that our righteousness is not a list of good deeds. It is the sons and daughters of God being who they are in oneness with God.
Thus we see that the word of God was made flesh and dwelt among us. Then following the cross and the outpouring of the Spirit the word of God became us. There is a name for the word of God manifest as you. It’s ‘now we are the sons of God’.
