‘Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit’ Romans 8.1 NIV.
The life of God is spirited and alive with real, infinite life. It heals and re-creates. The life of God is never a ‘sanctified’ form of inhibition. It’s not compartmentalised and not some form of individualism. The law of sin and death is what is destroying the earth. Take care to live in the law of the spirit of life.
FACETS OF THE DIAMOND
What is the life of God? The life of God is companionship with God, the wellness and well-being of God and the presence of God in us and in the world. The Kingdom of God is based on the reality of the new creation. The new creation is not the old materialism, the old capitalism with a human face. It’s not jobs off the back of unlimited growth. Neither is it socialism and Environmental Religion. The new creation is the incarnation of Christ in us and in society.
The life of God is also the joy of life and the frequent ecstasy of being oneself along with the enjoyment of the company of others. The love of life is of God whether he or she who exults in life knows God or not. Love replenishes the earth. Love does not rape it.
Religion is not life. Religion is a human attempt to undo separation. Religion as an entity has done much to turn people away from life because it is too often a disguised form of death. The life and order of God is always found in relationship with God. We relate to Father through His Son and Holy Spirit.
‘And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth’ Eph 1.10 NLT
The life of God is also the sense of oneness with the creation. The life of God is more than the opposite of pain and death. God and the expression of His life is Jesus Christ who endured death, yet is the manifestation of unlimited life in the sense of ‘life to the full’.
David of old testament times was a great exponent of the joy of living with God. David exulted in God and His creation and lived in and with Him as a prophetic omen of the union with God that would come to all in the person of Jesus Christ. The amazing thing is that everyone today can have a greater degree of fellowship with God, with more intensity and interwoveness than David or any old testament great person enjoyed. This is because of the incarnation and with it the ministry of Holy Spirit. Christian Kettler informs us that..
“The atonement is not simply one moment of time on the cross, but the “development” of the incarnation, of the heart of the Father revealed in the Son, who has partaken of human flesh. Therefore, atonement is essentially the ontological * communication of the life of God, a life that gives itself in suffering love, even to the pain of death on a cross. The heart of the Father has healing and atoning effects when it lives in the life of the Son. As McLeod Campbell puts it so well, the atonement is the “development” of the incarnation in an “indissoluble way,” as a “natural, not arbitrary relationship” between the Father and the Son. What we have revealed here is nothing less than the stupendous fact that, in the incarnation of the Son, humanity participates in “the history of the inner life of His Godhead” (Barth). God communicates his own life in order to heal broken humanity.” (1)
Adam is undone and you are established in the resurrected person of Jesus Christ. Should the law be our life it is probable that we will exhibit the life of God as some kind of a disease rather than what it is – life without limit.
The advantage of a pure relationship with Jesus is that you have undiluted access to life in its purest essence. Not only that. You see God as God is, know yourself and are delivered from the knowledge of good and evil that afflicts the children of the law. With Christ as our life we see God as God is, see and know ourselves and penetrate the appearances and illusions of the world. As Paul said about the Living Word manifesting in the sons of God:
‘For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart’ Heb 4.12 NIV. 1) Kettler, Christian D..
