GOD HAS MADE YOU ONE WITH GOD
God undoes separation between God and man in the person of His Son. When Jesus announced that by the Spirit He would be in us and with us and that we would never be orphans He did so on a certain authority. He was one with God as Hebrews attests ‘The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word Heb 1.3 NIV. He was fully human which is why Jesus referred to Himself as the I AM and the Son of Man.
ALREADY MADE ONE
Jesus Christ has made us one with God in ‘being’ as just stated, and by act, meaning the achievement of the at-one-ment by the cross that led to the incarnation and the later infilling of Believers by Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Keep in mind that the anointing and the gifts flow from the incarnation – not the incarnation from the anointing and gifts. The two have been made one in Christ. The incarnation is the foundation of the Kingdom of God.
Myk Habets observes that, “Torrance states, ‘The first thing he [Jesus] did as he entered upon His active ministry was to be baptised in a crowd of sinners – that was His identification in the body of His flesh with the whole mass of sin and death. By Baptism He made Himself one with us all’. Jesus linked this baptism to the cross when he spoke of that ‘baptism of blood’ (Mk 10.38–9); by crucifixion he was incorporated wholly with us in judgement. By identifying with fallen humanity in this personal way, Christ brought about communion between the One and the many.”
Thus Paul declares, ‘I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me’ Gal 2.20 NIV.
We have been made one with Christ and as a result one with God. We are fully human and fully alive when we live in this oneness because it is ours.
