We may observe that some people have acute spiritual discernment, and some have almost none. Some have a strong knowledge of scripture and little spiritual discernment while others may give ‘words of knowledge’ yet be a barren field where spiritual discernment is concerned.
Such discernment depends neither on intelligence or education, although these are relevant. What is more cogent is humility and the capacity to listen and hence the ability to learn through dipping into the wisdom of others. Spiritual discernment is partly joining the dots. But only partly because such discernment is our participating in the ‘knowing of God.’
SEPARATION INDUCED DULLNESS
“Torrance held that, as the enquirer encounters God in his voluntary self-revelation in Jesus Christ—an encounter taking place through Scripture, prayer, and the immanence of the Holy Spirit—then the logic of revelation is intuited. Thus, what we are given to work with in theology is not simply the historical data of the Gospels, but the logic of the divine reality which alone makes sense of the Gospels.” (1)
THE INSIGHT OF CHRIST YOUR LIFE
The logic of the Divine Reality is the presence of God in us as Christ our life. There are Believers who are impervious to the genuine gospel and this is why. They are affixed to their inherited ideas and live to pump up their partisan christ and proprietary gospel. As a result they are like goldfish in a bowl on a table in the lounge who think that the bowl is reality. A disciple of Jesus is not a disciple of a brand.
Brand following is ok if we are content with being a fish, but not ok when entering reality is the door to living as sons and daughters of God.
