The beauty and power of each of us and the church in the Spirit of Sonship is that Christ is our life - that the trinity live in us and impart their nature to our persons. This is the incarnation.
What is the great issue of life? Firstly, that Father is more wonderful than any of us have imagined. Secondly that in Christ we have been enfolded in the Communion that is God.
Thirdly that in Jesus we are the sons of God. Sons not notionally but sons in spirit and in truth. How do humans participate in the divine nature? The answer is, through the incarnation. The trinity lives in us. We have the privilege of the indwelling of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. They are individuals and one - each with a distinct persona and ministry, yet one God.
How do we become holy because God is holy? God lives in us in His fullness and imparts Himself to us.
‘On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you’ John 14.20.
This a fact of our life when we realize it and live in it. The difference between sons and workers is that sons live in their inheritance - the inheritance of the Free Woman. Sons are the instigators of the Kingdom of God.
The gifts are not life in the Spirit. They are simply spiritual gifts. Christ our life is life in the Spirit – because Christ has come in our flesh.
In the new testament age, we have entered life in oneness with God. Should we have retained ourselves in the law, we have sided with the old Adam and ignored the New. We have missed what God has done and are not participants in the Kingdom of God. Sure, we can reach for the Viagra of Holy Spirit and hope to pump up our potency. But this is to no avail if we are not connected to the trinitarian hub in our new covenant union.
Of course, we are loved by God and graced by God. But graced in order to enter the path into the new and living way that is Christ come in our flesh - which is to say, Christ manifest by the spirit as us. Grace is always an opportunity to grow. Not an excuse to remain dormant.
‘I say this because many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist’ 2 John 1.7 NIV.
MIRAGE OF EXTERNALITY
Your life is Christ. You have an Easter life in the constant renewal from the resurrection in you. You have a Sabbath life of rest and peace in union with the trinity. In the person of Jesus, you have divine rest for human restlessness. As a son in spirit and in truth you have authority - not as the teachers of the law who carry cardboard weapons.
The secular world grapples with intractable problems with little effect because it deals with externalities and never the heart. The law and its culture of religion is 100 percent externality. It’s outside you. It is not alive and can never transform you. But it can persuade you that you are preaching Christ when you are preaching another gospel - a gospel of your own. Old covenant living in the new covenant age can insulate you from your inheritance of union with God. Or turn you into a bigot and a phantom of what you could have been had you become a son of God in spirit and in truth.
There are sons in spirit and truth and sons in potential.
Every human is a son/daughter of God generically. Our inheritance is not ours unless we possess it with mind, will and action. This is Paul’s plea in Galatians: Use what is yours! Those for whom Jesus is life, who have His mindset and agree and rest in what God has done are sons in spirit and in truth. They follow the apostle’s teaching. They are competent to minister the Kingdom. Not bits of it or pieces of religion but life to the full. They are ministers of spirit and life operating in the stream of life that flows from the throne of God into Bob and Joy whereever they are and whatever they happen to be doing. It’s not rocket science. It’s simply Jesus in you manifesting as you.
