His Kingdom in you and the world

Healing is a sign that Jesus is among us to heal our relationship with God and ourselves. But a church cannot be healed and established as an outpost of the Kingdom if it lives in an old covenant mindset. Why? The old covenant is lived in separation from God.

In an old covenant mindset we deny what we already have: Union with God. The authority, health and spirit-life of the church flourishes as we live in the union that is ours. The law is finished. Moses and Adam are undone. The old covenant is old hat and you have a new heart. Christ is your life, your healing and your relationship with the Family of God.

You don’t have to live in this inheritance. You can insist on your own partisan gospel. sYou can be your own version of the moribund conservative who lives a backward life for the sake of a dubious identity and a false security. But many conservatives as we have seen in the press, live a poor version of themselves and a poor attitude to those we are called to love and
rescue from abuse.

Unless we understand what has been accomplished by the cross and what it means to live in the Spirit any other measures we may take – even becoming
spirit-filled and anointed cannot have a Kingdom effect. They will simply confuse and delay genuine healing – which is the healing of our Father Wound: Our separation from God.

This applies to all the gifts and especially to our life in the Spirit. There is no sustainable life in the Spirit should we contain ourselves in the old covenant. This is a mindset that promotes artificial separation from God and superficial membership in the Body of Christ. The reason? We are still joined to the body of death.

What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?  Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!’ Rom 7.24,25 NIV. Here Paul. Speaks of the conflicted mind of the soul who has not availed herself of the mind of Christ and His living body of life in the Spirit.

He has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him’ Col 1.22 NIV. Paul is saying that God has made our life Christ’s life so that we are not only graced with His righteousness but transformed by His life as ours.

On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you’ John 14.20 NIV. Jesus urges us to take up our union with Him and live as who we are: Part of His Person. God is saying in these verses that we have much more than a declaration of innocence in Jesus. We have been installed in Jesus as part of God. This is a state of being and it is this state of being (ontology) that defines us as belonging to the Body of Christ.

We belong to the Body of we are born again. If we are not born again this ‘belonging is problematic. Jesus told Nicodemus that
seeing and being the Kingdom involves a state of being – not citing a scripture or two.

Stephen Crosby’s remarks below apply to all of our life in the Spirit – not just prophecy and gifts. It’s. possible to heal others and essentially be unhealed of separation ourselves. We can find ourselves going to mission fields and promoting an old covenant mindset that prolongs the fall and undoes the cross. Thus Crosby writes,

Proper prophetic ministry in the new covenant era begins with a transformative and experiential understanding of one's union with God. Like Karl Malden in the old American Express commercials used to say: "Don't leave home without it."” (1)

This is to say don’t attempt to minister the Kingdom in an old covenant mindset because you will impede it. We are competent as Kingdom ministers when we minister in new covenant union with God as living members of the living person of Jesus.

‘He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant--not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life’ 2 Cor 3.6 NIV.
