His life as your life

Satan betrayed Adam and Eve into non-being. He seduced them into separation from God where one loses identity, integrity and much of our humanity.

If we have been raised in a culture of the law, we will try to see truth in words and proof texts. As the Word, Jesus spoke words of spirit and life so that we would be sons. This life is not found in words but in
the being of God. Truth and life is found in ‘being’ – being one with God.

I walked with a good friend in my earlier life. We chose to serve God as best we knew. I remember him telling me that the Bible taught ‘obey and live.’ This may have been so in the old testament but it’s not the truth of the new covenant. Here truth is live and obey. Why the difference? Because since the cross Christ’s life is our life. In Jesus we are woven into God’s being. Incarnated with God, God becomes us. So we get to be sons in spirit and in truth. Now we are joined to God and we are the expression of our Father.

Because God’s priority is life and not about sinning/not sinning, life is what we get by
the One Spirit. Life in the spirit it the manifestation of God’s being and God’s life as you and as us.

Jesus never acted as a minister of the law. Neither was He bound by religion. Jesus lived from oneness with His Father. Thus Jesus announced, ‘The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life,
and have it to the full.’

Jesus does not offer some life. It’s not limited life that is on the table. What we are gifted with is infinite life. No glass half full here. It’s life without limit. This is because our inheritance is not religion, not an ideology, not a contract in which we do to earn life. It’s a the gift of God’s life as our life.

To follow Jesus is to be instructed by and to follow His
way of seeing. Thus, ‘He said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life" John 8.12 NIV. Jesus saw nothing through the law, analysed nothing through the knowledge of good and evil. His lens was His Father who He was in Him and with him.

In Jesus you get a state of being – of being one with God, of belonging to the Family of the trinity. This is the belonging Jesus had with Father – ‘I and the Father are one.’ Adamic separation is undone, Mosaic compartments are no more. There is no sacred and secular. Just you and. us in God, part of each other’s being, in fellowship with the trinity and being nurtured as daughters and son by God alive in our being.

The key to holiness is to live in Jesus and not in oneself. Yet this is the one way to be our true self.
