YOU COME ALIVE IN JESUS' HUMANITY
25/03/24 14:40

The fact that God has revealed Himself in Jesus Christ is instructive. It means that we see our Father in Jesus and that in Jesus, we have the Door to the nature of God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit -three persons, one God. This revelation is a window on what it means for us to be one with God – as God is one with Himself in His triune nature. In Jesus this kind of unity of spirit is imparted to our being and our community.
IRRELVANCE
Jesus as the representative and expression of God as a human being is the superb demonstration that God is not some abstraction and certainly not an expression of the law, as some would wish to assert.
Jesus is the expression of personhood, of personality of our Father and the Holy Spirit. He is the representative of community and the living way in which genuine togetherness is seeded into the lives of people.
INVERTED CROSS
It’s no coincidence that trinitarian denial is associated with legalism in both Pentecostal and evangelical circles. Legalism has a non-personal taint and is ultimately anti-human because ‘the letter kills’. The heresy of legalism is that it defines the truth as outlined above as not enough.
TOGETHERNESS
Godliness is never an abstraction and is always revealed in the healed and harmonious self, in the enjoyable marriage and in a rich and rewarding family life. The main image of the Kingdom of God is family and for a reason. Genuine togetherness flows from the trinity. Torrance observes, “There is in fact no real knowledge of God except through his revealing or naming of himself as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, for the three Persons are the One true God. The only God there is, is he who has named himself to Israel as ‘I am who I am / I will be who I will be’, and who as the same Lord has personally come to us as ‘God with us’, clothed with his triune self-revelation and self-designation as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.” (1) The beauty of the incarnation is that Christ lives in us.
THE FABRIC OF BEING
Communities of faith grown from the law vary from inert to judgmental and malicious. They vary in nature from sincere and well-meaning to judgmental and abusive.
Jesus has come into our being by the indwelling Spirit of Christ – in what Paul called ‘Christ our life’ and John called ‘Christ come in our flesh’. He is in us as our life and our righteousness. In Himself Jesus incorporates us into the communion of the trinity. The separation precipitated by Adam is ultra-undone in Jesus Christ.
Genuine community is more than ‘meeting going’. The ‘I am who I am’ and the ‘I will be who I will be’ has come to us in Jesus Christ and more. True individuality is found in Jesus Christ as is the ability live in real community. Because of Jesus we have the blessing of the trinity in us.
