Jesus is the Light of the World. To embrace Him as our Life is to receive Him as our Light. ’Walking in the Light’ is walking in the incarnation - of our oneness with God. When we live from ‘Christ come in our flesh’ we are living with the trinity incarnated in our being. We are in the Light and With the Light.
‘All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him’ Matt 11.27 NIV. Jesus reveals Himself to all who worship Him as Lord. Worshipers in spirit and truth live in the progressive revelation of Christ. The ‘knowing’ cited above is the ‘knowing’ of oneness - the knowing that is the trinitarian communion and the ‘knowing’ between a husband and wife in a good marriage. It’s the ‘knowing’ that we have in walking in the light.
GROUND OF OUR BEING
Speaking of Jesus Christ, Baxter Kruger writes, [Jesus] “is the light of the cosmos because he is the one in and through and by and for whom all things were created and are sustained. Jesus is both the source of our existence and its reason for being. The meaning of human existence, and indeed of all creation is found in the person of Jesus. There is no other meaning for us.” Thus to be in Jesus, to have our being in Him is to be immersed in ‘deep seeing.’
LORD OF THE FABRIC
Why is Jesus the Light of the World and the Light of You? The reason is that He made the world and that the world holds together in Him. Baxter Kruger puts it this way, “In the person of Jesus Christ we stand not simply before another man; we stand before One who predates the cosmos, and before One whose eternal relationship with his Father and the Spirit necessarily shaped the very fabric of all things.” (1)
The fabric of all things is a function of the Christ of God. Jesus knows the world, knows you and everyone in it. Jesus knows society, social structures, economies and religion. He knows religious institutions. In this respect Jesus is Light. He is the light of the world who reveals all things as they are.
Paul writes, ‘See to it, that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ. For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, and in Him you have been made full, and He is the head over all rule and authority’ (COL 2:8-10). Empty deception includes ‘other’ gospels, legalism, ‘new light’ and variations on the teaching of Jesus and the apostles. Any addition or subtraction to Christ our life takes us captive and blinds us to the the Light. To ignore this is to subject ourselves to dullness of spiritual comprehension.
The sad thing about Believers without spiritual discernment is that they dont know that they do not have it. We can have discernment because Christ is our life or we can have the spiritual discernment of a pumpkin. Why be a pumpkin when we can be light?
‘When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”’ John 7.12 NIV. (1)
