YOU ARE INCLUDED IN CHRIST
Many do not know that the incarnation is the foundation of Christianity and that the Kingdom of God is not a religion. It’s an incarnation. They think devotions, Christian discipline, moralism and manifestations are our Christ-Life. They are parts of it but the foundation is Christ our life – the incarnation. Quite a lot do not know that there was no incarnation in the old testament. Many do not know what the incarnation is. Doing church and jumping through hoops is what they know.
CENTRALITY OF THE LORD’S TABLE
The reminder and sign of the incarnation is the Lord’s Table. Jesus said ‘Those who eat Me will live because of Me’. He meant more than eternal life. He meant to be alive in our person.
Jesus left us only two rites to celebrate and confirm that we have entered His life: Baptism and the Lord’s Table. Baptism is the sign of our death in Jesus to our Adamic life. The Lord’s Supper is the reminder and celebration of our day to day life of oneness with Jesus. It’s not mainly about the cross. It’s mainly about being one with Jesus. It’s difficult to think of a more striking reminder that the Bread of Life becomes our life.
The Lord's Supper or Eucharist is the sacrament of our continuous participation in Jesus Christ and all he has done and continues to do for us by his grace. It is the sign of the reality that is we are living increasingly not from a centre in our selves but from a centre in Christ and his doing. It is the sacrament of our union with the whole Jesus Christ, the incarnate, crucified, risen, ascended Son, both in respect of his ministry from the Father toward mankind and in respect of his ministry from mankind toward the Father.
ONTOLOGICAL MEANS ‘BEING.’
The foundation of our life in God is ontological – which means our being is grounded in God’s being. There is security in this, an abundance of love, the healing of the self and the realising of the self as a son/daughter of God.
BE WHO YOU ARE IN CHRIST
Christ in you is the hope of glory because in actuality you are a glorious being. How can a son/daughter of God not be? This glory has nothing to do with fame or ego. It has everything to do with your being your true self and ministering life to others as yourself as one of the many faces of Jesus.
But we get to be this kind of life-multiplying self because Christ is our life. Thomas Torrance puts it this way. “The Lord's Supper or Eucharist.. is the sacrament of our continuous participation in Jesus Christ and all he has done and continues to do for us by his grace,[by His grace] whereby we live unceasingly not from a centre in our selves or our own doing but from a centre in Christ and his doing.
It is the sacrament of our union with the whole Jesus Christ, the incarnate, crucified, risen, ascended Son, both in respect of his ministry from the Father toward mankind and in respect of his ministry from mankind toward the Father.” (1)
JESUS IS ENOUGH
Let’s be clear. There is no link between God and yourself that you must forge yourself. There is no pre-requisite that you must fulfill to be in relationship to Jesus. There is nothing extra to believing that Christ is your life that you must accomplish to enter eternal life. Jesus is your belonging.
