His Kingdom in you and the world

‘Small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it’ Matt 7.14 NIV. Infinite life goes not to an elite but to those hooked on life enough to search life out.

Some Believers have more life than others – not that this is always obvious to the casual observer, although sometimes it is observable, simply because real life cannot be hidden. Generally speaking folks not alive in their spirit do not recognise their morbidity. When it is suggested that they can have more life than they are experiencing they can take offence and reproach the life-giver as being judgmental. But spirit and life is the reality of those who find life while a merely religious life is a lie that makes people dormant.

Where is fullness of life to be found? It’s found in Christ our life. This is the Narrow Way. This way is the incarnated life – the new covenant life in which Christ is you. Thus it’s best described as the new and living way. We are not alive because3 we are doing missionary service and we not alive because we are not doing some well-known sin. We are alive because in Jesus Christ we are part of God. We are daughters and sons. We are one substance with God. The essence of the new covenant is oneness with God.

We are not new covenant if we are contained in the law and upholders of the law as the way or even a way of salvation.

Secondly we are in Christ, in God and woven into the Family of God because God is in us and we are in God. This implies that it is not the mouthing of words or the citing of scripture that affirms us as members of the Body of Christ. We are of the Body because Christ is our life as a person, as the joiner of our person to Himself and because being both man and God He has woven us into the Family of God.

We are not in the Spirit if we are attached to the law. ‘This gospel of the Kingdom’ incarnates itself by the Spirit of Christ into Believers. These Believers are the church that Jesus builds without human hands. He does this by expressing Himself by
His Spirit in our flesh. No group which teaches a gospel that claims that Christ comes through the law is genuinely part of the Body of Christ. However they do belong to a dead body of the kind Paul called ‘this body of death.’

The body of death is the opposite to Christ our life.

‘What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?  Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!’ Rom 7.24,25 NIV. A body of death is not alive because it is separated from the spirit and life that is Jesus Christ. What is the cause of the separation Paul is citing here? It’s the law that the Jews were refusing to give up in favour of Christ as their life.

Should we agree that Christ is our life; should we believe the one gospel of Jesus, we become one with His life and one with all who assent to this reality. We are baptized by the Holy Spirit into the Body of those for whom they and the Father are one. This is Christ’s body. Stephen Crosby writes,

It’s not just quoting a proof text.

The essence of the new covenant is to be participators in something, not just believers about something, and declarers of something. That something is the new age. The powers of the foretaste of the age to come have burst into time and space. What Paul was going to later identify as THE NEW CREATION has begun, and it is a qualitatively different creation/age.

The prophetic spirit that had previously been held in reserve and was dispensed individually, sporadically, and circumstantially on only a few "anointed" and primarily male individuals is universally accessible in a degree and scope previously unfathomable.  In the new covenant, the spirit of the resurrected God-Man in glory has come into time and space, not only to be among and upon members of the believing community, but also to inhabit them, to be in union with their human spirit. This never happened in the history of humanity until the first time at Pentecost. It has been the order of the day ever since

God inhabits you and more. God expresses ‘Godness’ through you. Thus your spirit is alive and not dead.

Christ come in the flesh is all of the above. It is Jesus’ life as your life. It has nothing to do with the law and is as different to the law come in your flesh as a tumour come in your body. Christ come in our flesh is the gospel of the Kingdom. It is the new covenant in spirit and in truth. This is the Spirit of Jesus manifest as George and Sharon and us all. It is the miracles of new creation and the ever expanding Kingdom of God.

‘We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers’ 1 Tim 1.9 NIV.
