THE INCARNATION OF CHRIST IN YOU

REAL LIFE IS LIVING THE UNION WITH GOD YOU ALREADY HAVE

We can live a ‘contract religion’ of a couple of distinctives and one or two externalities or we can live the Whole Person Life in Jesus Christ. In the latter you have a life worth living because He is with you and in you.

Timothy Keller observed that, “
It is taught [by some] that it doesn't really matter what you believe as long as you are a loving and good person. This is a typical mistake in "liberal" churches.

VIRTUE SIGNALLING
“This view teaches that all good persons, regardless of their religion (or lack of one), will find God. This sounds extremely open-minded on the surface, but it rejects the grace-first principle in two ways.
WRONG TREE
“First, it teaches that good works are enough to get to God. (If all good people can know God, then Jesus' death was not really necessary; all it takes is virtue.) The trouble is, this means that bad people have no hope, contradicting the gospel, which invites "both good and bad" to God's feast (Matt. 22:10). If you say that people are not saved by faith in Christ, but by being good, then you will only invite "the good" into God's feast.
SENTIMENTALISED VIRTUE MONGERING
“Second, it sets up tolerance, openness and love as the ultimate virtues, rather than a scrupulously moral life. [ Hence the approbation of degraded forms of life are regarded as virtuous while Godly morality is seen as bigotry] Though it sounds flexible, it is moralistic in another sense. It indirectly encourages people to feel that if they are tolerant and open, that will please God. The gospel, however, challenges people to see their radical sin. Without that sense of one’s own evil, the knowledge of God’s grace will not be transforming.”
ONE WAY
We are both worse than we think and better than we think. Since we come from God, we have an interest in being a ‘best self’. But because of the fall our inner life has become corrupted and we can act as
beasts individually and as societies. There is a Way to live a gracious and loving life and this Way is exclusively Jesus Christ. All other ways are theft and robbery.
THEFT AS RELIGION
‘I tell you the truth, anyone who sneaks over the wall of a sheepfold, rather than going through the gate, must surely be a thief and a robber!’ John 10.1 NLT.

Christ makes us whole by drawing us into Himself. There is a foundational dualism in this. Christ is our life. Life outside of Christ is degradation and death. As we press into the riches of Christ our inheritance, we become more alive, more able to love and more re-made in the image of God. Christ in us transforms the whole person – not just denominationally branded bits and pieces of morals. Christ come in our flesh – the eucharist lived is the robust holiness/non-religious whole person living that only an embraced incarnation can provide. Growing from glory to glory means becoming the Real Self as an expression of the Spirit of Christ in you. This is Christ come in our flesh. The real life in the Spirit.
