PERICHORESIS - REAL LOVE, REAL LIFE, REAL MARRIAGE
A perceptive author who happened to be a theologian signed off with a salute to his wife, “Perichoresis my love.” I was moved when I read it. Nothing shallow about this kind of love. It’s the love and communion that exists between the members of the trinity and the oneness in which two become one in a good marriage.
LOVE, ONENESS, COMMUNION AND RELATIONSHIP
Once one discoverers the truth of perichoresis and its ‘communion’ in the trinity and the inclusion of ourselves in the being of God because we are adopted as sons into the Holy Family. The notion of community becomes clear. We can see clearly its application to the fullness of marriage, family and genuine community life as ht manifestation of the trinity in ourselves as the church.
IN THE IMAGE OF GOD
The dynamics of inclusion and oneness, of shared being with the uniqueness of identity comes from God and is meant to be expressed in human relationships. The introduced and bizarre disjunction of the law and legalism compared to this kind of togetherness reveals legalism as the irrelevance and monstrosity it is. This is why legalism must be addressed as a virus because it is responsible for a false gospel and a false christ.
Myk Habets observes that “The goal of humanity is worship, something Torrance defines as the gift of participating through the Spirit in the incarnate Son’s communion with the Father. The locus of worship, and thus of theosis, is the church, the communion of saints created by the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.” (1) In Jesus the God who is three persons, one God has drawn us into Himself and into our real selves.
