MYSTERY REVEALED

We are saved from being non-entities, un-sons and caricatures of our real selves. The mystery of Godliness and the miracle of salvation is far more than merely ‘being saved.’ It’s being made one with God. Ministers of the Kingdom call people to come to Christ. But for what. Actually not so that they can live Christianity. But so they can be sons/daughters who know God as God is and themselves as they are.

‘Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent’ John 17.3 NIV.

The notion that the law is the key issue of the Kingdom of God is a subtle and pernicious falsehood that acts like a tumour in the Body of Christ, changing what was meant to be the spirit of sonship to communities of invalids attempting to make do in the Body of Death. What is this body of death cited by Paul? It’s context is the law and the Jewish temple service that Paul was declaring as an entity that promised everything but could not rid Him of conflict and contradictions of Adam’s forbidden tree. This is the cry of someone caught in the dualism of the law. But relief come because Christ becomes our life.

‘What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?’. Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! Romans 7.24,25 NIV

What is the quality of life in which this sonship is based. It’s source is the ending of our split life in Adam and the start of our union with the Christ of God.

‘For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility’ Eph 2.14 NIV. The ending of the barrier is the effect of the killing of the knowledge of good and evil and the innate separation that is the law. Oneness has come to us in the Christ of God.

“The trinitarian persons of God are inseparably united in one Being.(1)” It is this kind of union that is yours and ours when we talk of life in the Spirit and which Paul further emphasises as The One Spirit when he writes, ‘But the person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him’ 1 Cor 6.17 NLT.

AVOID DISTRACTIONS

The incarnation, and never the distraction of the law, is the key of post cross life. This is because the cross is the un-doing of separated life Adam’s fall began. The mystery of Godliness is that Christ becomes us, which is the meaning of the words ‘Christ come in the flesh’. First the Son of God came as the man, Jesus christ. Second the Son of God came into you by the Spirit at Pentecost.

Such ‘oneness’ is ours in oneness of being. This is the incarnation: The fullness of God in you and expressing Godness as you - but with you retaining your individually and being. As a son/daughter you are enhanced in uniqueness and identity by this union.

PERICHORESIS

In the trinity, “Each Trinitarian Person exists for the sake of another, and in fact does not exist apart from the other. The early church therefore adopted the Greek word perichoresis. This implies a mutual interpenetration and indwelling of each Person in the other.” (2) While this is the dynamic of the trinity it is also the dynamic that is God in us. As sons and daughters we are the expression of the fullness of God – the ‘we’ who have made their home in us.

I emphasise this oneness with God is how we become God’s life and righteousness. Never by the law which was a function of the forbidden fruit - the fruit that came from Adam’s sad baptism into confusion. But we are baptised into the very Communion of God in Jesus Christ.

WHO SHALL DELIVER ME?

‘Law based christianity’ which is the culture of the fundamentalisms is the undoing of the Kingdom of God in the name of God. Life-based Christianity is the function of Christ our life. Law based Christianity is such a threadbare charade of our inheritance that those steeped in might find this gospel of the Kingdom as written here, incomprehensible. But this is why being a genuine follower of Jesus rids us of our veils of misunderstanding.

Our state of being is oneness with God. Living in this union we are alive with God’s spirit and life. And we can see. But not if habit and vested interest blind us to life and to light.

‘Leave them; they are blind guides. If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit’ Matt 15.14 NIV.

COCOON

We are seeing in this season that evidence and truth mean nothing if one is intent on living in a cocoon of self-made reality. We can live in a Christian version of the knowledge of good and evil by mistake or by choice. Such crippled religion is lead by blind leaders and followed by blind people. The Gospel of the Kingdom is amazingly simple and all embracing. It is Christ and the trinity come in our flesh. We have a choice. Either we can live in the light of the world or we can live in our own light – which is confusion and darkness.
