In The Silver Chair the prince lives his life underground as a slave and the Sorcerer Queen calls the shots and awaits the time when she will openly seize power having absconded with the authority of the prince.
LIFE AND MORE LIFE OR DEACAY AND DEATH
The Narnia stories are parables of the struggle between life and death, light and darkness, confusion and clarity as well as the battle between Jesus Christ and His pure hearted followers and the bands of double-minded that either reject Aslan’s Kingdom outright or make steady progress in subverting it into some version of the knowledge of good and evil. Some may be surprised to learn that the Real Gospel is not about good and evil. It’s about life and death; about ultimate life in Jesus Christ.
We need to know that real life for us starts with union with God. Christ in and through us produces much good fruit because He life becomes us.
BABYLON
One might be astonished from time to time when incapable and incompetent people are made managers and leaders. Appointed to a position of authority, dull and insensitive persons can imagine themselves capable entirely on the grounds of their appointment, when plainly they are not able and verge on incompetence. But why are they there? Could it be that dull people are necessary to maintain an institutionalised lie?
MARKETERS OF RELIGION
Working for ineffectual managers is exhausting and bad for mental health. Yet we should not lay blame too heavily on them. The real blame lies with the higher order management that appointed them. Often these ciphers appoint limited people on purpose because the organisation needs people who lack the ability to see through the misinformation and lies on which the institution is built. These are places where the money changers are not driven out of the temple but are made executives in it. They are supervisors of an Enemy Stronghold.
A DEAD TREE
When organisations stagnate or just go nowhere and good ministers give up because they were handed a furphy in the first place, the comatose and drugged press on, secure in their sleep walk and the illusion that they are maintaining a legacy and doing the Lord a favour.
The dull and the unremarkable slot into position. Administrators who are chosen because they are a cog in the system and not smart enough to pose any threat to the fictions on which the organisation is founded. The result is slow stagnation and eventual implosion. Here we can expect deceit to pose as leadership, muddling through to take the place of competence and marketing to present itself as vision.
OUR MESSAGE
Such was the school named ‘Experiment House’ where a certain principal muddled through in the name of Leadership. C.S. Lewis writes, “When the police arrived and found no lion, no broken wall, and no convicts, and the Head behaving like a lunatic, there was an inquiry into the whole thing. And in the inquiry all sorts of things about Experiment House came out, and about ten people got expelled. After that, the Head’s friends saw that the Head was no use as a Head, so they got her made an Inspector to interfere with other Heads. And when they found she wasn’t much good even at that, they got her into Parliament where she lived happily ever after.” (1) So this is a parable of what?
