IT'S NOT A CONTRACT OR BARGAIN
The Gospel of the Kingdom is not an exercise in ticking boxes. It’s about the undoing of the separation from God that occurred as a consequence of the tragedy of being seduced into seeking to be ‘as gods’.
Christ our life is the undoing of Adam.
We can neither know God in separation from God or know ourselves in separation from God. Contained in the law we live in Adam’s separation from God. Hidden in Christ we live in Jesus’ oneness with the trinity.
Any observance that joins us to the law is a ploy of the anti-christ
Separated from God we have a confused view of everything else, which is one reason why stupidity is increasingly being exchanged for wisdom in this season.
Karl Barth writes, “The Gospel is the Word of the Primal Origin of all things, the Word which, since it is ever new, must ever be received with renewed fear and trembling. The Gospel is therefore not an event, nor an experience, nor an emotion—however delicate! Rather, it is the clear and objective perception of what eye hath not seen nor ear heard. Moreover, what it demands of men is more than notice, or understanding, or sympathy. It demands participation, comprehension, co-operation; for it is a communication which presumes faith in the living God, and which creates that which it presumes.”
THE WORD IS GOD
The Gospel is conveyed in words, but the Gospel is also the person of Jesus Christ. The Word that is sharper than a two-edged sword is the Living Word, aka the Christ of God. ‘The word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart’ Heb 4.12.
WITH CHRIST AS YOUR LIFE, YOU ARE A LIVING WORD
It is this Word in us, infused into our being that enables us to see the Light and know what light actually is. Christ’s tutoring of the self in the Light teaches us how to see, what to regard as truth and what to discard as flesh and fruit of the tree of knowledge. Any addition to Christ did not come from God and is one of the fruits that causes lack of discernment and accommodation to subverted gospels. Satan wages a war against fullness in Christ. Limiting beliefs in individuals arise as a result and misguided denominations appear that teach distorted gospels that produce crippled lives.
In the passage above, Barth emphasises a pleasing truth about the Gospel of Jesus. It’s not mere words. It’s living truth and not abstract truth. It’s about a state of being and not initially about doing. It invites participation in God, invites us to join Him in ultra-life and extravagant belonging of the Kind that is God’s life – the togetherness of the trinity. Life and love are closely linked in God. Jesus has drawn us into the this circle of fulfilment and joy. Real life is a state of being. OF BEING ONE WITH GOD. Not an exercise in ticking boxes.
