‘We were made to live in God.’ I found that line in The Shack some years ago and perceived it as a piece of revelation that transcends mere religious assertion. ‘Living in God’ means living from Jesus. It’s not about being a Christian and living in Christianity. It’s union with God.
In embracing this prize we have what Jesus had. We and Father are one and we enjoy fellowship with the trinity. This is not about living in ‘observances.’ This ‘living in God’ is Christ come in our flesh and more. It is the trinity in us and us in the trinity.
This is the inheritance of every Believer. Available to all - it is not an intimacy based on our performance or victory. This is a union achieved by God in Christ and gifted to us. As in Adam all suffered the death that comes from separation, so in Christ all received the prize that comes from our being made alive in the fullest sense in Christ.
In Christ we have His union with Father.
Many Believers have a faint relationship with Jesus. What they do have is attendance in a church routine, a relationship with church if you like. Those who live in God do so because God is God and they have been drawn into His life – because they believe and because they would not be satisfied with mere religion.
Church quarrels are not always the result of Christian bloody-mindedness. They are the effect of the conflict that arises between those whose God is religion and routine and those whose God is God and they live in Him.
Much has been said about house churches and café churches. All have their merit. But the spirit and life of Jesus and the well-being of the trinity enlarges where Jesus is desired. Incarnation means that God is in us; that He is where we are; that there is no time or place that is more full of him or empty of Him than any other. This is why Sabbath-keeping is the irrelevance it is. God is. Christ lives in you. God’s presence is in your lived ‘lived life.’ You have the Sabbath life Adam and Eve had with God before the fall. It’s is ours now in spite of the fall and because of the resurrection.
NO DIVIDED LIFE
The life that we wrongly name secular is the planted new creation. This God incarnation is the yeast, the mustard seed and the trinity in you manifesting as you, in your family, in your work place and nation.
God is in you before you get to church and before you do your devotions. The point is to embrace this. The community of the trinity has enveloped you into itself so that you will be a genuine manifestation of a daughter, a son and the Holy Family.
YOUR HUMANITY COMES FROM THE TRINITY IN GENERAL AND FROM JESUS IN PARTICULAR.
You don’t live in a belief system, an ideology or a routine to be a human being. You live in fellowship with God to be a daughter and a son. Paul in Galatians described the former as workers and slaves – still human but robbed of their dignity and fruitfulness as sons and priests.
You can belong to the body of Christ as a dead soul our you can belong as a son/daughter of God.
YOU HAVE A NEW STATE OF BEING CALLED SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF GOD
“Jesus’ Father is not and never will be satisfied with mere forgiveness or legal reconciliation. How could He be? Such a “forgiveness” and “reconciliation” would leave us lost to His heart and hiding from Him in our fear. Such a reconciliation would leave [us] trapped in isolation..” (1).
You are not isolated. God is in you and with you. Jesus loves you as are you are and not as you should be. He rejoices in who you are and is in league with you to nurture you into being your genuine self. This is His glory and yours being revealed.
