His Kingdom in you and the world

I wrote recently that God may be sensed in the creation, in Godly people and great works of art but that He is revealed explicitly to our hearts in the person of Jesus Christ.

The being of God while always present in the creation has been intensified and amplified to our minds in the post cross age due to the at-one-ment, incarnation and ministry gifts of the Spirit.

Yet it is not the Holy Spirit who achieved our salvation. It is the Christ of God who is God drawing us into Himself. Holy Spirit is fully God and represents the saving work of Christ to our spirits and minds. It is Holy Spirit who brings home to our consciousness the achievements of Jesus, continuously revealing to us the wonder and certainty of our union with God in Christ and the truth of our fellowship with God in knowing and being. Being one with God is the essence of Godliness and the essence of God in three persons.

[God as His] “Being-in-Communion.. is surely an essential aspect of God’s self-revealing and self-naming as ‘I am’ proclaimed in the Old Testament which was appropriated by Jesus Christ and identified with his own I am proclaimed to us in the Gospel of the saving love and grace of God the Father.

The full significance of this ‘I am’ on the lips of Jesus (‘I am the Light of the World’, ‘ I am the bread of life’, ‘I am the Resurrection and the Life’, ‘I am the Vine’, ‘ I am the Way, the Truth and the Life’, ‘I am with you’, etc.) becomes disclosed in what Jesus said to his disciples,

‘I am in the Father and the Father is in me.’

For he thereby showed them that his own ‘I am’ is grounded in the indwelling of the Father and the Son in one another, in the eternal Communion which belongs to the inner Life of God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

It is this eternal communion that is God and particularly is this communion love and also life. We might add that it is also light (truth).” (1) But is also in this Communion of the trinity that we live, move and have our being.

Jesus is the explicit revelation of Father God by being personal, alive, one with Father and Holy Spirit and one with us as human beings. Jesus among us, Jesus come in our flesh and Jesus in oneness with Father and Holy Spirit as a member of the trinity is union and communion with us and in us. We have been embraced and included in the relationship that is God.

‘Neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything; what counts is the new creation’ Gal 6.15 NIV.

When Paul talks of Jesus ‘drawing all things into Himself’, He is the Christ doing that which is His nature and the nature of the trinity. God is not contained in compartments of time or place. Jesus as the new creation in person means that the unity in diversity that is the trinity is the archetype of what He is achieving in us as the new creation.

‘Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!’2 Cor 5.17 NIV.
