GRACE is never the rationalisation of well-accepted un-truths.
Holiness and life is union with God. Un-righteousness and sin is separation from God. Keep this in mind as we proceed.
If we are to live in love, life and joy, we need God’s kind of love. This love is exemplified in the Communion of the trinity – a perichoresis in which each is unique yet each is part of the Other. God in Christ has enfolded us in this actual love. In Christ we are in God. Separation has been undone and we are living in the Communion of the triune God, courtesy of Jesus and the enterprise of the trinity. That is, we are living in this oneness if we are not living in the law. To live in the law is to live in separation when we are no longer separated and have not been since the cross. By the cross, the atonement and incarnation, God has gifted us union with Godself in Christ, that God has with God’s trinitarian self.
NATURE OF SIN
What Gregory Boyd says about love in the quote here, applies to living in God’s life. If we are still contained in the law/knowledge of good and evil we are separated from this spirit and life. He writes, “We fail to abide in love because we choose to live from our knowledge of good and evil. This.. is why the Bible depicts the origin of our separation from God as eating from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, which was in the middle of the garden (Gen. 3:1–9)… The fruit of the forbidden tree, a fruit that .. whether it fits our preconceptions or not, is the nature of the sin that separates us from God [and] is said to be the “knowledge of good and evil.”
ONE WITH GOD. REAL ONENESS WITH YOU
Significantly the issue decided by the Council of Nicaea was that Jesus Christ is God and is one with God. The issue for us is that Jesus’ Christ’s oneness with God is now our oneness with God in our new covenant life in the Spirit. Significantly the Council of Chalcedon established that “Knowing that Christ is fully God and fully man, we can fully trust in the salvation he offers through his death and resurrection.”
To me love and loving is the effect of being one with God’s Life – which is the communion of the trinity. This is why John announces Jesus as THE LIFE AND THE LIGHT OF HUMAN BEINGS
PEACE. CONFIDENCE. BOLDNESS
Since we know that our salvation in Jesus is real, a state of being and vicarious, we have confidence to step into the Christ who is incarnated in our being and invite Jesus to be us. To be our life so that He has indeed come in our flesh. This means that we are living in oneness with Him. In this grace we have freedom to be ourselves and are positioned to express His nature and grow into the ability to be live in Infinite life and love as Jesus loves.
