His life as your life

In giving a speech in honour of a very conservative colleague recently, a friend declared that ‘He was the greatest mind of the 19th century. The trouble is the colleague lived in the 21st century.

The new government under Scott Morrison is making a thing out of ‘getting electricity prices down.’ But electricity prices are up because we gold plated our poles and wires and because of the sell off our abundant natural gas overseas which creates scarcity at home. Keep in mind that these are resources sovereignly owned by the Australian people. But because of the nature of capitalism, of markets and the culture of greed, large amounts of money are to be made out of what belongs to others. Since I first wrote this the venality of the banks has been confirmed, the greed of certain retirement home proprietors has been uncovered and the honey diluting villains have been exposed. Since I wrote this over a year ago much of the East Coast has been ravaged by bushfires of an intensity never before seen. We would be foolish if we could not join the dots and see some level of causation between climate change denial and this kind of disaster.
Silliness is not dead in Australia and neither is Ned Kelly.

Then there is the matter of coal. We have abundant supplies. But fossil fuels cause global warming. This has been so since the 1780s with the introduction of steam power and then the internal combustion engine. There are alternatives in the abundant supplies of sunlight and wind. And methods of storing the power are being developed. There is potential in increasing reliance on hydro-electricity, but only if it continues to rain. Maybe there will be such a thing as ‘clean coal.’ But don’t hold your breath! There are solutions to the current challenges but they are not implemented because of bloody-mindedness, the spirit of Babylon and a comfortable ignorance on the part pf the masses.

There are solutions that are well within the range of possibility. Yet governments have been paralysed firstly by non-governance and incompetence and secondly by an emotional and childish obsession with the status quo; an obsession with what they are used to and an obsessive. This from the party of ‘private enterprise and innovation.’ It seems that conservativism is to society what mold is to food.

It’s difficult not to think that the most obstinate of the recalcitrants are opposed to the utilisation of renewables because they are addicted to the old. In the absence of any real reliance on God their closest form of security is what they are used to. So these recalcitrants, like effigy’s crouched in a 44 gallon drum shout ‘Don’t change anything!’ through the bunghole and remain in their self-induced coma.

People do the same thing when they ignore the new covenant and live out their lives in the old, bereft of the incarnation and attempting to band-aid their outmoded religion by the gifts of the Spirit.

“I am the light who has come into the world, so that all who believe in Me may not continue living in the darkness” – Jesus.

“For the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually perceived” – St. Paul.

It’s a sad thing to think one has spiritual discernment when one is a blind man walking.

“The horrible thing about being spiritually blind is that you don’t know that you cannot see properly, and you cling to your way of seeing with a vengeance. You defend your darkened understanding as if it is the only truth in the universe. For to you it is. Anything else is inconceivable.” (1)

To be born again is to be swept in to the new regime that Jesus began when He ended Adam and so to speak, started Himself – in us. Every Kingdom person is Jesus multiplied. This is why we must be born again if we are to see anew and be new. The new creation man and woman has new creation eyes. To them all things are possible. The way ahead is challenging but never paralysing. They are empowered by Resurrection in person.

‘For I knew how stubborn you were; your neck muscles were iron, your forehead was bronze’ Isa 48.4 NIV.

The zombie and the dead man walking is brutal but accurate picture of any kind of denialist. The intransigence of the climate change denialists is a parable of all who hibernate in the old covenant, in their own gospel and in the confines of ‘their law.’ It is their law. It’s not Jesus’ law. His law is Himself multiplied in you and I.

‘As it is written: "God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that could not see and ears that could not hear, to this very day’ Rom 11.8 NIV.

The Denialists choose to continue to walk in darkness and call it light. Jesus rebuked those who maintained ‘their law’ in preference to His life and lamented that they refused to come to Him TO HAVE LIFE. Don’t be among those who extend the fall by refusing the fullness of His life.

We are not leaders because we have a following. We are leaders because we walk in the light.

‘Leave them; they are blind guides. If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit’ MATT 15.14 NIV.
