You could give an old truck a new coat of paint. But it would remain the old truck, decrepit, immobile and in danger of shaking to pieces with any kind of locomotion. Then again you could replace all the panels, fit a new tray and install are new engine. Then put in a new drivetrain and gearbox and install new springs and new rubber. So transformed, you would have an almost totally new truck.
But you are not a similar compilation of of bits of Adam and pieces of Adam’s race. You are entirely a new woman and a new man birthed from the heart of the trinity. Father, Son and Holy Spirit have birthed a new man - a new you. The first of the transformed is Jesus Christ - the firstborn from the dead and the One New Man in whom we are transformed from children of Adam to new creation children of God.
‘And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy’ Col 1.18 NIV.
When Father, Son and Holy Spirit make our home in us, they begin to transform us from the inside. Christ is our life because He put us to death in Adam and resurrected us in Himself. In Him we are an entirely new creation. Not an adjustment of the old but sons of God in spirit and in truth.
As real sons in the reality of Christ we are rooted in our Father. Here we manifest His nature and become the unique sons each of us are, as we grow out of Him and are mentored by Him.
Jesus was who He was. He acted in the authority that was His and fulfilled all that Father sent Him to do because He and Father were one - not because He was anointed with Holy Spirit. This was a function of His sonship. Jesus enjoyed the anointing of Holy Spirit without limit because He was one with our Father. Painting Holy Spirit and the gifts onto old covenant, law bound religion is like painting a wrecked old truck with a new coat of pain and expecting it to be a useful carrier of cargo. It won’t happen. Old covenant religion cannot maintain life in the Spirit or grow the Kingdom of God.
In Christ you are a reborn person. In the law you are not. You are an old Adam/Moses wreck with a new coat of paint and an impossible task - the task of being a son of God in the power of the law and separation from God. But un the age of the Spirit Christ is your life. You are resurrected and reborn in Him to grow into maturity as a son/daughter who produces the fruits of heaven’s life in you.
