Any process that subverts Jesus into religion did not come from God. Any custom that dilutes Jesus into Christianity did not come from God. Any tendency that reduces life in the Spirit of Sonship to institutionalism comes from the pit. Any ideology that absorbs Jesus Christ into law or makes Him subordinate to the law or a servant of the law did not come from God. Any gospel that would place the law at the summit of salvation is contrary to the gospel of the Kingdom in which Christ is all and in all.
‘And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church’ Eph 1.22 NIV.
Should we insist on living in a performance mode or the law, we place ourselves with those who refused to enter the promised land. This promised land in the present is our union with God - the inheritance won for us by Jesus. This land is our place in God’s presence and heart.
‘And he said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours’ Luke 15.31 ESV
The parable of the one talent is about those who will not receive their inheritance because they are locked into their religious pre-conceptions of who God is and what he has done for them, or not done. The law does not in any way portray the nature of a loving God. It does however model the nature of a hard man and a demanding school master. Any gospel that lessens Christ and dilutes the fullness of Christ as our life is the spirit of anti-christ.
‘I say this because many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist’ 2 John 1.7 NIV.
Jesus is diminished when He is diluted in religion, intuitionalism and artifacts of the letter. Some can reduce even life in the Spirit to a lexicography! When Christ is diminished our Father is slandered. When Father is slandered we are diminished as sons. When sons are crippled the Kingdom is hindered. When the Kingdom is hindered the new creation stagnates. When the Kingdom stagnates the world becomes chaotic and the reality of Christ in us is denied. The ring is not cast into the fires and the world lurches on for another three thousand years. I hope not!
What happens when some other entity is the center and Christ is not all and in all? God becomes small and we become withered, crippled shadows of our real selves. To live in anything less than Christ is to lose ourselves and live in blighted ignorance of our unlimited potential as sons of God and who we can be as channels of His life. There are religions like Hinduism that are complex and philosophical. There are religions like Buddhism that seem peaceful and compassionate.
These contain fragments of truth because they emphasize parts of His reality. But they did not come from God. They have no power to transform the soul and are incapable of achieving in one’s life the principles they advocate. There is no power in the delineation of good and evil to effect a transformed life. Yet there are Christians who preach law and live from the law. But to do so is to deny Christ and live in an entity that He has passed by and replaced with Himself. Because we live in infinite grace we live in the opportunity of infinite advancement. We are both forgiven and filled with the entirely of God in His trinitarian nature. We are sons and daughters of God by creation, redemption and spirit. When Jesus is your life you are a unique expression of God. But not in anything less.
Religion that detracts from Christ by maintaining the law and that perpetuates a pre-cross regime did not come from the God. It came from the pit. Any gospel that makes Jesus less than all and in all is a stupid gospel made for asses warped religion. Its effect is to dull the mind, harden the heart and deny the fullness of life that is ours in Christ our life.
‘For, "Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?" But we have the mind of Christ’ 1 Cor 2.16 NIV.
God cannot be known as He is in the law. He is revealed as He is in Jesus Christ. The law is not a description of God’s character. But Jesus is. To see Jesus is to know God and know our Father. The genius of Christ our righteousness is that He is more than our righteousness, more than morality, ethics and tenets. He is life itself. To be in Christ is to have Christ in you. In His Spirit you are the expression of God. You are a son!
