Radical Grace is the genuine grace of God that sets us free from the curse of other gospels that whither the soul by denying us spirit and life. Radical grace is the grace that is God as He is rather than as we have seen Him. Radical grace is God’s real grace as it is – not reluctant grace or grace with strings. How could the grace that is Father, Son and Holy Spirit not be radical and amazing when He is ultra love, mega life and infinite light? An austerity gospel is not the gospel of the Kingdom. Jesus is returning us to His gospel and the gospel of the apostles. If we desire we can be released from niggardly gospels and un-gospels fomented by the Enemy and diluted by man and find real life and comfort in our Father.
‘But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God's curse!’ Gal 1.8 NIV.
It appears that Bible translators dumbed down the aggressively compassionate nature of grace because they didn’t think it could be that good! Thanks to translators life Francois Du Toit and theologians like J Baxter Kruger, the Grace Communion group and - others influenced by the Torrence brothers, the full power of grace is being increasingly released. It is being received as the living water it is among an appreciative Christian public. When we receive this in its fullness rather than as we have limited it, we will be well equipped to represent the life Jesus released upon us.
‘The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us’ 1 John 1.2 NIV.
This excites many Believers. Others are put-out. If we have lived from a ‘try-harder gospel’ in an old covenant understanding we cannot help but be annoyed if we perceive others getting for nothing what we have worked all our lives in religion for – and with only a constipated success. Living in semi-misery that leads naturally to judging we can be peeved when others live in the joy that - unknown to us - is already ours.
Many have adopted ‘another gospel’ for lack knowledge of the real gospel to live and rejoiced in. I have friends, good and sincere people, who live under the discipline of attempting intimacy with Jesus through personal performance. In this gospel we earn fellowship with God. In Christ’s gospel of the Kingdom we live in the intimacy He has already provided.
What we need to know is that we possess intimacy with God because Jesus has given us free access to God’s loving presence. We ‘are included’ and included because we are deeply loved as we are and not as we should be.
Don Keatley writes on Facebook. ‘When I first started ministering a radical grace message I was shocked how mad it made people. I lost leaders, staff pastors and people who had been my close friends and "go to" for over 20 years. I was called behind my back every form of heretic possible. Now I am shocked and stand back in awe as God is gathering a crowd of radical grace people who can't get enough of what I teach about radical grace and buy every CD after the service that they can get their hands on. I want to encourage my fellow pastors who are going through the rough spot of going backward in numbers, finances and reputation. Hang on my friend because many times those who got you to where you are, will not be the same people who God appoints to get you to where you need to go ...This is a move no man can stop.’
Father’s obsession is not with sin and stopping it. His obsession is ‘you,’ loving you and sharing with you His life. It is His drawing of you into Himself to be embraced in His presence that releases you from the power of sin and death and projects you into increasing life.
Religion makes us fear that we may be letting sinners ‘of the hook.’ It’s a shame that we have embraced the kind of religion that portrays the Kingdom of God as ‘a hook’ and a mean one at that.
You would think unlimited life and unlimited love would be well received. The Pharisees and the cross show otherwise. Since Jesus, extravagant life has continues to be opposed by religion with its clinging to death – whether it is outright persecution of a stubborn resistance to the radical nature of Jesus as our life.
This is why we must work to show ourselves approved – not because we are part of an austerity culture but because radical grace is counterintuitive. We must choose to rest in His grace. This involves a choice to go against the grain of the laws of sin and death and embrace His life without limit.
Fullness of life in the present is found in knowing Jesus as He is, in knowing that He and Father are one and that you are one with our Father. We live in the spirit of life when we know Jesus as He is and live in the correct understanding and fullness of what He has achieved for us. Avoid deviations of your own and distortions that you have been taught because there is infinite love and infinite life on offer for all.
‘Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent’ John 17.3 NIV.
