There are times when our perspective is valid and times when our perspective can be a heresy and a delusion.
‘For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect’ Matt 24.24 NIV.
There is only one vine and ONLY ONE WAY OF BEING THE VINE: JESUS. None are at liberty to construct their own vine or live from their own perspective of the vine. Yet all of us are called to be who we are as the branches of the vine. There is a vast difference between living out your call to care for the poor and living in the law and old covenant because this is your particular denominations perspective. The latter is death. The former is life. Or to put it more concisely, one is a lie and the other is a life.
‘Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it’ Matt 7.13 NIV. We might live in our personal way, our own perspective but we will disfigure the genuine Christ and destroy what could have been the fullness of the glory of Christ in us.
What is our way? We live from incarnation: Christ in us. This the way. The one way is Christ in you, Christ as you and Christ as the church. There is one way, one husband and one genuine Christ. This is the Christ of God who is the Christ of our Father and of our fellowship in Holy Spirit.
The one way – known also as the new and living way – is Christ in you and you in Christ. This is by the Spirit. The result is that God in Christ participates in our life and we participate in the life of the trinity. Yet this is more than mere participation. It is mutual indwelling. We are joined. The bride of Christ is one flesh with her Husband, which means that we are ONE SPIRIT with the heavenly family.
‘The person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him’ 1 Cor 6.17 NIV.
Should we diverge from this, regress into pre-cross mode and come up with a hybrid gospel and a lesser christ who helps us keep the law we have made a false-christ and adopted a delusionary gospel. We have separated ourselves from God in our minds.
WHEN PERSPECTIVE IS LEGITIMATE
In the new testament age we can have a perspective and a passion as to how we will live out Christ’s Spirit in us. These are wholesome and legitimate branches and fruit. The fullness of Christ is seen in the multiplication of the diversity of Himself in the church.
WHEN PERSPECTIVE IS NOT
Liberalism/pluralism does not apply to the way, the truth and the life. There is only one of it and it is exclusive of divergence.
This way has been called the new covenant – an abrupt and drastic departure from pre-cross attempts at relating to God. Pre-cross was characterised by distance and separation. Today our new Adam is Christ. He is our new Father of the Human Race. Jesus is our new life in union with God. This way is also known as the vicarious humanity of Jesus. Paul would have called it ‘Christ our life.’ Jesus called it, ‘I will be with you and in you. J Baxter Kruger calls it the “Mutual indwelling [of ourselves and God] without loss of personal identity.” In other words, we exist in union with the Triune God, but we do not lose our distinct personhood in the process. This is the vine and the branches in spirit and in truth. Apart from this vine we can do nothing. Worse still be are nothing!
