Christ Your life

His Kingdom multiplied through you

HIS PASSION

As a youth I read that the law of Moses was the expression of God’s character. This opinion can be found in more than one place on the net and the literature – misguided as it is. Jesus Christ is the expression of God’s character. Jesus is the unveiling of our Father and the demonstration of His reality to human beings. Jesus is the image of our Father, the sum of righteousness and the reality of who all who take His name are in God.

If our spiritual formation has been in line with the distortion above, we may well have made ‘god’ much less than God is. Firstly, Jesus was fully God. Simultaneously he was fully a human being. Thus to see God is to see Jesus and to know yourself is to know Jesus. God is who He is in Jesus and you are who you are in Jesus.

Francois Du Toit writes, ‘
When the Son of God stood face to face with the son of man he said, "If you have seen me, you have seen the Father! You have seen your true origin’ John 14:9. God is no longer a mystery, He is no longer invisible! In Him (Jesus) the image and likeness of God is made visible in human life in order that every one may recognize their true origin in him . He is the firstborn of every creature Col 1:15. [Any darkness that obscures Him], He unveiled. In him we clearly see the mirror reflection of our original life.’

To see Jesus is not only to see God. It is to see ourselves. When Christ is our life we become who we are. This is why we must see God through Jesus and not some weak thing like the law or some foggy thing like religion.

Not everyone knows who God is. In religious cultures tainted by
Arianism, one may have absorbed the notion that Jesus is distinct from God. Or the notion that Jesus is not God in His fullness and actually less than God. I remember being stunned in a staff meeting at a Christian school when a pastor’s wife asked the question, ‘What is God like?’

‘Jesus answered: "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?’ John 14.9 NIV.

How could a Believer miss something so fundamental? Clearly Jesus reason for coming among us had been lost on her and her community – which is understandable since the core of their belief was that Jesus main task was to uphold the law. If this was really so, then Jesus was indeed not God because he would be subordinate to the law. Of course this is nonsense. Jesus lived from His Father, lived to reveal His Father and was one with His Father.

‘The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven’ Hebrews 1.3 NIV.

A law mentality – which is fairly wide-spread - manifesting mainly as a try harder attitude, assumes that the most important thing to God is performance. But it is not. The most important thing to God is you! Our origins in God’s being and Calvary indicate this. Father was in Christ drawing us back into Himself. In Christ the trinity fulfils its vision of you and I as the sons and daughters of God!

Francois Du Toit writes,
‘There is A GREATER REALITY to the mere sentiment of Calvary. Mankind's eternal origin associates him inseparably to the heart of God. This explains Calvary. This explains the extent that God was prepared to go to secure our redemption. ‘I knew you before I formed you.
