Why do some Christians live decrepit lives stumbling from one disaster to another while others are spiritually perceptive, have a more serene experience overcoming odds and increasing in life’s satisfaction and joy? We have the capacity to be robust in spiritual energy and brimming with spiritual life. The Spirit of Christ ‘constraining us’ or in more everyday terms, marinating us in God’s person and presence makes us Godly, more human and more fun! Spiritual life is not some pious thing, cut-off from our ordinary humanity. It is our ordinary humanity imbued with the spirit and life of God. When Christ is our life our being is the manifestation of Jesus.
‘For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead’ 2 Cor 5.14 NIV. Since one died for all one also lives for all. He is our life, our light and victory over circumstance and the Enemy.
The life of persons started, not in some puddle on an empty planet. You were conceived in the heart and presence of the trinity by a God who wanted to share with you and with all their joy in being alive and being themselves. Jesus came into the world resolved to guarantee the success of this vision.
Jesus ministered life because He was one with His Father, lived in His Father and possessed the spirit and life of His Father. He expressed the life of heaven on earth. Since Jesus is The Resurrection in person, the One who triumphed over the devil and all that Corrupt and Degraded Humanity had to throw at Him, He is your resurrection in every respect. Since Jesus rose from the dead and began the new creation life as the First-born from the dead He is our blessed hope every day and for eternity. Things will only get better in Jesus!
‘And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy’ Col 1.18 NIV.
The world is chaotic and seemingly hopeless. There are young people who have entered adult life with forebodings so grave and a hope so dim that they become paralysed in depression. Yet we do have hope. The resurrected Jesus is our personal hope and the guarantee the world will revive when we live in Him. He is the new creation in person and the engine of the new creation Kingdom of God.
Satan would retain us in the decay of Adam and the disintegration and torpor of the old covenant order. To live in religion is to live in Adam. To remain attached to the law is to remain un-born into Christ and separate from our Father. But in Jesus we have union with God so complete that we too can say that ‘We and our Father are one.’
To live in life is to embrace Jesus as our life. When we are enlarged in the fellowship of the trinity this spirit and life flows to our relationships, charging them with harmony and joy. In Jesus we see as Father sees and participate in His life.
‘As You, Father, are in Me, and I am in You. May they also be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me’ John 17.21 NIV. Unity and peace in our own person, joy in our relationships is ours because the community of the trinity invades our life and relationships.
One cannot experience fullness in the law or with any attachment to the law. The life of the knowledge of good and evil separates us from God, from ourselves, from our spouses, family and from genuine community. A spiritual life attempted in the law will make you sick in spirit and body. Not only will we be robbed of life because we are living in death. We will tend naturally to fear, superstition and judgmentalism. Criticism will be our native language and unhappiness the air that we breathe. Not even the anointing and gifts of the Spirit can heal lives that remain un-healed by separation from God.
In Jesus you and life are one. In Him you and righteousness are one. In Jesus you become the manifestation of the fellowship of the trinity. You will live joyfully in grace and truth and be trees of life.
