People have asked me why prophecies of fullness have not eventuated and why the benefits of life with Holy Spirit are not more apparent than they are. Firstly it must be observed that the power of Holy Spirit in signs and miracles of healing appears by grace and not according to our level of doctrinal understanding. These graces are the means of attracting our attention and drawing people into the life of God. Secondly it needs to be said that the presence of the gifts does not mean that we are living in the fullness of who Jesus is and what Father accomplished for us in Him. The ‘gifts’ are not life in the Spirit . They are the gifts.
God speaks to people in words and dreams and people can heal the sick in Jesus name. Yet in their soul and spirit they remain crippled in half-lives brought about by false doctrine. Lies bind us. Truth really does liberate and multiply life. Lies and blight are the property of the Evil One. Truth and light is who Jesus is and what He brought to us.
‘When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life’ John 8.12 NIV.
It’s not uncommon for people to minister to others while themselves in spiritual wheel-chairs. While drops of living water may emit from us in such circumstances we certainly are not able to release the flows of living water that would come from us if we lived in the Spirit. In this condition we are devoid of spirit and life. I’m taking of those of us who minister the gifts of the Spirit yet remain crippled in the old covenant and law. Retained in an old covenant mindset we do not live in the Spirit.
Please understand that gifts of the Spirit are not life in the Spirit. The latter is our new covenant life in which Jesus is entirely our life and we are one with our Father. This is our state of being in the One Spirit.
‘But the person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him’ 1 Cor 6.17 NLT
In Galatians Paul says living in the law is living as slaves when we are actually sons. This is because in the old covenant all lived in separation from God, striving to make themselves worthy – even as God was preparing to secure our union with Him in the coming Christ. Yet Father’s purpose is always to draw us into the fullness of His accomplishments for us. So that all may know and enjoy the completeness of who Jesus is for us and the excellence of who we are as sons in this new covenant age.
‘So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord--who is the Spirit--makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image’ 2 Cor 3.18 NLT. Veils blur our view of God, dim who we are and confuse us about the gospel. In the Christ of God veils are removed.
Having mentioned the new covenant it is important to understand that we can only live in scraps of our inheritance if we remain in the old covenant. The ‘old’ no longer exists. But many live in it in their minds. They have made it exist beyond its time - which means it is the reality they have created for themselves to live in. But today it is a ministry of death. We are incompetent to minister the Kingdom from this position. This so called reality is a shadow of the real. The reality is Christ. The fact is that in His reality we are now one with Father as Jesus was one with Father.
‘He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant--not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life’ 2 Cor 3.6 NIV.
Spirit, life and infinite possibility come from the new covenant. Never from the old. In the old there is fade-out, limitation and death. The knowledge of good and evil and the ‘surely die’ warning is the sentence of death in the law of sin and death. This tree and its laws stifle life, ferment untruth and bind people in illusions and fables. The law – child of the tree – produces a culture that is This Body of Death.
The lies of Satan drew Adam and all who followed into separation and limitation. None un Adam could enjoy life without limit and all lived under the shadow of death. Anything in Adam (and Moses) has the capacity to start well, but no power to sustain itself. What began well always petered out because it was fundamentally separated from the life of God. ‘As in Adam all died’ because Adamic old covenant life is separated from God and disconnected from the infinite life that is God. Anything Adamic dies because that is its nature. It is a culture and a ‘body of death.’
YOUR NEW LIFE
But as Jesus is, so are you in Him..
‘For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit’ 1 Peter 3.18 NIV. You died in Jesus yet you are raised in Him and are now alive in the Spirit.
In Christ all are made alive. Not just saved to eternal life but saved into irrevocable union with God and His endless flow of infinite life. Here we are joined to uninhibited imagination, bold vision, divine insight and the power to restore life to dead people and dead things. This comes under the heading of the new creation: Never found in the law and the law’s culture of separation , restriction and limitation but found without limit in Christ who makes us and all things alive in Himself.
‘Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!’ 2 Cor 5.17 NIV.
The new covenant is radically new. It is entirely our life in Christ without the law and without the mediation of either temple, churches or pseudo priests. Christ is your life and He is with you and in you. The trinity is incarnated in you. This is life in the spirit and the genesis and power of new creation/kingdom life.
So don’t bolt Holy Spirit and the gifts onto the law and the old covenant and expect success. It will surely fail. This is not the Kingdom. It will not grow. It will not grow because we ourselves live in self-imposed separation. As well as this, Holy Spirit, Father and Son do not join themselves to death. ‘Their thing’ is life and they have made a way for us to live in life without limitation. They did this by joining us to themselves in Jesus, the new and living way.
