‘Who will deliver us from this body of death?!’ The body of death Paul takes of, is our personal life in Adam – the ‘you shall surely die body’ in the un-life that became ours as children of the first Adam.
Collectively the body of death is the civilisation that grows from this Adamic life. In the secular realm this dead body is the culture of rebellion and rejection of God as our Father –the culture of humanism and atheism. In the religious realm the body of death is the culture of Babylon and Egypt. In the overlapping institutional realm of the Christian Industry, the body of death is a system and culture that offers the undoing of separation for the price of allegiance to its hierarchy and personnel. This a culture of separation posing as life when it is actually dead. They use the name of Christ to legitimate themselves but proffer themselves as the way that overcomes separation from God.
‘What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!’ Rom 7.24,25 NIV.
BODY OF LIFE
We are delivered from this body of death through Jesus Christ. He is literally our body of life – the physical body who died on the cross and the resurrected body who lives in heaven and in each of those who believe. This ‘body of life’ is the life-giving Spirit of Jesus who literally becomes our life. This ‘THE NEW COVENANT IN MY BLOOD LIFE and the spiritual body that we celebrate at THE LORD’S TABLE. It is the ‘Those who EAT ME WILL LIVE BECAUSE OF ME’ body and the ‘Christ our life’ body of which Paul spoke.
The ‘new covenant in my blood’ is an absolutely New And Living Way and a complete break from the past Adamic life. It is Christ our life.
ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE
Rubbing oil into the old covenant wineskin is like attempting to mix oil and water. It’s not going to happen. When Jesus died on the cross our life in Adam died. When He cried ‘It is finished’ our Moses’ Rulebook was finished. It became extinct. When Jesus rose from the dead we rose in Him. Our life in Jesus began and His life in us began to release the new creation. In this creation all that is Jesus as described in Colossians 1 is THE SEED that grows in individuals and society into the Kingdom of God.
The unadulterated Christ in you is the seed of infinite and eternal life.
‘For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross’ Col 1.16-20 NIV.
‘Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made’ John 1.3 NIV.
We can live entirely in this body of life or by misunderstanding and perverse teaching drag about with us a body of death characterised by a few drops of water, many false starts and but never life to the full. Dragging around this body of death, hopes are not realised, the spirit of sonship is not lived and spirit and life in the fullness of Christ elude us because we are crippled by Adam and stymied in Christ.
BAPTISED IN HIS LIFE
The notion that we can or should revive anything that is old covenant and law is a gross perversion of the Gospel of the Kingdom and contrary to the apostles teaching. Holy Spirit is true to the Christ’s gospel and none other. Holy Spirit lives to glorify Christ and set us free from all that is dead and false. She will extinguish the false gospel of a revived law and replace it with the gospel of Jesus, John and Paul. Holy Spirit does not anoint tares or assist in their propagation. In company with Jesus, the angels and apostolic figures Holy Spirit pulls them out and replaces the miasma of confusion with the spirit of sonship.
