CHRIST YOUR LIFE

His life as your life

HUMBUG BE GONE

Francois Du Toit writes of our life in God, “
Every invention begins with an original thought. You are God’s original thought. You are his initiative, the fruit of his creative inspiration, his intimate design and love-dream.”  There is nothing un-lively about you in God.

You are His creation.

It’s a sin to portray God as what He is not. If ever there was an original sin it was this one where the nature of our Father was lied about by Satan and the nature and identity of ourselves was portrayed as less than we were: Sons and daughters of God in spirit and in truth.

SHUN IDOLS

Graven images of God can be made as physical idols or as mental ones. They debilitate you and sell-out heaven. All cunningly devised fables have this in common: They make God and ourselves less than we are.

To portray Father as the chief law-monger of the universe is a gross perversion and a lie. It’s also a slander to imply that God has invested Himself in legalism and that the way to honour God is with a version of the knowledge of good and evil – a law culture.

COMPLETE REVELATION

Jesus is the complete revelation of our Father and Jesus is who we are as daughters and sons. Speaking of what the spiritual man or woman looks like, Richard Rohr writes,

All great spirituality teaches about letting go of what you don’t need and who you are not. Then, when you can get little enough and naked enough and poor enough, you’ll find that the little place where you really are is ironically more than enough and is all that you need. At that place, you will have nothing to prove to anybody and nothing to protect.

That place is called freedom. It’s the freedom of the children of God. Such people can connect with everybody. They don’t feel the need to eliminate anybody.”

PSEUDO-SACRED

A quality of much religion is the making ‘sacred’ of icons and practises that are not sacred and which have no power to make anyone Godly
. It’s a key feature of the knowledge of good and evil and a contradiction to Kingdom spirituality: Christ come in our flesh.

Genuine spirituality is about setting oneself free of humbug and living out of Christ instead of what we have made as a religion of christ. The former renders us as sons of God. The latter displays us to ourselves and others as cripples and hindrances to the advance of the absolute life that Jesus wants to release into us.

LIBERTY IS WHERE JESUS IS

To become a pious git on behalf of God is an insult to God and a grave slander against ourselves and what it means to be a son of God. Let’s be clear. Legalists can never be sons/daughter of God in spirit and in truth. They are of course sons generically. But generic does not cut it and it is not meant to.

We are the best sons and daughters when we agree with God that Christ is our life. Hidden in Him we are revealed as who we are. There’s no idolatry in this new and living way but there are many of them in the recesses of the knowledge of good and evil. To live from Christ our life plus nothing is to live as Jesus lived from His Father. It is to be free of all that dilutes and pollutes us.

Religion is not of itself wicked. It’s just that it is not alive. Christ is all life. This is why He offers to come undiluted and un-added to you into your person. It is why He comes in your flesh and does not bring any foreign matter with Him. The pure in heart see God and see themselves. They have a holy contentment in who they are.

GET THE REAL MIRROR

The law is not the mirror for your life. Jesus is. Make
sure your Jesus is Father’s Jesus and not some effigy of a legalistic imagination. Ensure that your Christ is the Christ of God and not some mean production of a guilty mind or a pious mindset. There’s no humbug in Jesus. Only life in its richest and most joyous form. Baxter Kruger writes of ‘unbridled life,

The Christian God is interested in relationship with us, and not just relationship, but union, and not just union, but such a union that everything He is and has—all glory and fullness, all joy and beauty and unbridled life—is to be shared with us and to become as much ours as it is His. The plan from the beginning, in the Christian vision, is that God would give Himself to us, and nothing less, so that we could be filled to overflowing with the divine life.”
