Ministry in the new covenant draws it fertility from the in-dwelling life of Jesus. In the new covenant His life is direct, woven into our being and transformative – not only as regards righteousness but to the issue of sonship. Once dimmed and deformed sons of God are healed and resurrected to sonship in spirit and in truth. Paul summarised our post cross state of being.
‘He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant--not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life’ 2 Cor 3.6 NIV.
SPIRIT OF LIFE
‘The Spirit’ is the being and life of God funnelled into us personally. In the Spirit not only are we the manifestation of our Father but we are in their company in perpetuity. So enough of this talk of entering the presence. We are in it. Separation was finished when Jesus cried “It is finished!” Union with God in real time and space happened at Pentecost - if we have not left this treasure in the ground.
Whether we are attached to 10 laws or one law we are of the letter and not of the Spirit. The new covenant is all spirit and no letter. It is simply Christ as our life. The person of Jesus manifests in us and reveals Himself as us. Not only is Jesus yours. What is His is ours – His relationship with Father and Holy Spirit. We are included in the heavenly family and we belong.
SONS OF GOD
You can live in your false self or your real self. In the former we attempt to create the self through career and contractual works such as ‘I will do this so that Jesus will do that.’ We enter our real self when we abandon contractualism and accept the gift of sonship: Christ as us, Christ our life. It’s called being born again.
All apostolic teaching embodies these truths. Such teaching and witness is the effect of ‘We and our Father are one.’ Stephen Crosby writes,
“John's message was not "this or that is going to happen," but "behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world." New covenant prophets are not a new class of intermediaries - a divine Western Union message service. No! Prophets are not surrogate "hearers" for humanity and "speakers" for God. New covenant prophets remove hindrances that prevent the bride from accurately seeing her Bridegroom. This may at times involve words, speech, and communication, sometimes including supernatural predictive and revelatory speech. In its simplest sense, prophets facilitate sightedness in others.” (1)
Jesus accomplished three main things. He revealed Father as Father is. He revealed us as we are becoming in His person. He made the two one. Jesus accomplished the at-one-ment in which we and Father are one. This is the source of the Spirit of Sonship and the soil of the gifts. It’s the soil of the Kingdom of God in which the Christ Seed springs us to be eternally fruitful in you.
It helps to minister the Kingdom if we are not blind. Kingdom ministry is the ministry of sightedness. Jesus urged, "Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again."
