His life as your life

If you pursue God without reservation you will be rewarded with levels of revelation that exceed a surface knowledge of the word. The word of God will become more than marks on paper. It will become the expression of the Living Word of God as you. The meaning of the passage below is that everything that is true belongs to the Light that is the Son of God.

The word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart’ Heb 4.12 NIV.

It’s not merely the Bible that is the focus here. Many renderings of scripture are neither sharp or perceptive and in fact they are a gross example of non-spiritual discernment. Some are doctrines of demons. Some that have generated entire churches and are cumbersome examples of wrongly dividing the word of truth. Like rendering Christ as subservient to the law.

The deeper reference in this Hebrews is to the Living Word – the logos, the light and life that illuminates all that exists. This is the intensity of insight that accompanies us when we follow Jesus with undivided heart. The pure in heart see God as God is and as they themselves are in Him. Thus when we are in the Spirit we are imparting Jesus – not just giving a Bible Study. We become an avenue of His life and His light. We are imparting being.

We ‘see’ by running the race – not bombing out in the middle of it. It's a fallacy to think we can follow Jesus up to the boarders of our personal or denominational understanding and stop there - and possess any degree of spiritual insight. Our spiritual discernment will be as dull as the sword in Heb 4.12 is sharp.

The mystery of iniquity is subtle. We can immerse ourselves in scripture and minister as vessels of confusion – without being aware that we are a living fog. This occurs when we live as ‘evangelists’ for a position rather than living as a disciple and an expression of Christ. We need an undivided heart to be light and to see light. John Crowder observes,

The Bible is not the Word of God. Yes, the Bible is fully inspired and it’s the means by which we see Jesus. But Jesus Christ – not the Bible itself – is the Word.

First and foremost, Trinitarian theology is Christ-centered. Every scripture must be read through the lens of the person of Jesus. He said, “You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about Me, yet you refuse to come to Me to have life” (John 5:39-40).

Here is the deal: Christ is the ultimate text. Jesus is the full and final revelation of who God is. Only by looking at Him can we see the true nature of the Godhead. The Father chose to make Himself known through the Son, and the Spirit constantly points us to Him. Scripture may very well be infallible, but your ears are extremely fallible. As a minister, I never fail to be amused at the stark contrast between what I say and what people actually hear. Similarly scripture can be twisted and perverted in any number of ways. But when I see the scriptures through the lens of Christ and His accomplishment, it all falls into place
