People are capable of remarkable insight and gross stupidity. We are living in a season when ignorance and dullness of mind are placed on a par with intelligence and education and encouraged in this by vested interests. These interests maintain themselves in positions of wealth and power by fostering the ignorance of the masses as though it is ‘common sense’.
In Jesus’ Day ‘the common people heard Him gladly’. They heard Him because He spoke words of spirit and life and because He was Revelation in person. Nevertheless, vested interests manipulated the scene to put life to death when life appeared among them in the person of Jesus Christ. Scott Peck observes that,
“Human beings are poor examiners, subject to superstition, bias, prejudice, and a PROFOUND tendency to see what they want to see rather than what is really there.” (1) This is why people in significant numbers can ensconce themselves in old -covenant, life-denying religion at the same time as they go about touting what they have as life.
‘Un-blessed’ are the blind for they shall see nothing (ignorance is bliss). Blessed are the poor in spirit because they shall see God. Blessed are we when Christ is our life because we shall see light and not walk in darkness. Jesus comes to us as life and light. He has gathered creation into Himself. Wise and insightful Believers follow Jesus into an ever expanding degree of life and light. Foolish virgins stop at a certain point and live truncated lives.
The Enemy has lied from the start. Satan intimated that we need to be like God when we already were sons of God. This is the same ruse applied today. Get then stuck like flies in the fly sticker of the law so that their sonship is limited and they are half blind.
THE GREAT DARKNESS
Deistic law-culture has us in separation from God when we are actually in union with God in Jesus. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
As the light Jesus shows us not only what to see but how to see. We can neither interpret the word of God accurately or the meaning of what is happening around us (spiritual discernment) when we are rooted in the law. The law is a compartment of the tree of blindness and death. Faith that is revelation and light is grounded in Jesus who is the light of the cosmos. When Christ is our life we ourselves are a lens of wisdom and revelation. We rightly interpret the word of truth.
TOWARDS THE LIGHT
Jesus said, ‘I have come so that those who are in me will not remain in darkness. Jesus has received us into His life. He is the light. We are the blind ones. But He has received us into His light. He is shining His light into our life. Here’s the challenge. Will we insist on our darkness, which is our perspective and our gospel.
WHAT WILL WE DO WITH THE CHRIST?
Will we demand that Jesus repents of being the light and the life and demand that He conform to our gospel? Will we accept Him as the light or will we insist that he accept the ‘light’ of our embedded ideas? We are not bound to participate in the belonging that is already ours. We can cling to our own narrative, our own light and say, ‘Your light is deficient Jesus. We have our own gospel and our own light. We belong to your Body so we can make-up our own gospel.’
Let none choose their darkness over His Light which is the essence of sin and become people who call light darkness and darkness light. Let us not pose as life-bearers while sowing the cells of non-life as a cancer that kills people in the name of life.
