The quote by Francois Du Toit at the end of this post is similar in theme to posts I have been writing recently on our identity in Christ. We are not only who we are as sons because we are in our Father. We have been joined in spirit and truth to the alpha and omega of our being. This is to say that we have been brought into alignment with our original design and have been made one with our ultimate destiny – to be ever developing in our being as sons and daughters who are a unique expression of God.
To be aligned with God in new covenant terms is to be aligned with who you are and grow into your true identity.
Jesus’ saying, ‘Ye are God’s,’ is a repetition of a saying in the Psalms. We are not divine and not deities. We do not become ‘gods’ as certain kings and others may claim. But we are more than most of us think. We are the sons of God. We always were. Satan used the original deception to stunt our sonship. He uses the law today to achieve the same effect. Our temporary alienation through the fall has been undone. Our sonship has been restored and we should live in it by inviting Christ to express Himself through us. This is life in the Spirit and Christ come in our flesh. The ultimate witchcraft at the fall and remaining so today is any teaching that denies this reality and substitutes it with something religious like the law and old covenant. ‘I say this because many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist.’ This is a most cunning deception because it is disguised as revelation and holiness when it is actually iniquity. OPEN YOUR HEART TO WHO YOU ARE The incarnation was conceived as the living way in which the resolve of the trinity to share their life with human beings would be realised. This way is alive because in Jesus we are made part of God and He part of us. The result is that you are more like God than you are like an animal and more like Jesus than just a human being who tries hard to be, well, human. In your being you are actually a manifestation of the trinity who birthed you. This is the meaning of Christ come in our flesh. Because Christ has come into our being, Father and Holy Spirit have done so as well. ‘I and the Father are one’ as stated by Jesus is now a statement that you can make without presumption. ‘On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you’ John 14.20. For some that day is today.
The true nature of our being is more exalted and more radically elevated than many appreciate. With Christ as our life we are sons in spirit and in truth – more than people who are trying to be ‘Christ-like,’ ( a subtle kind of self-effort) we are each a manifestation of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Not because we have turned ourselves inside out to achieve it but because have been declared the sons of God.
OBEDIENCE ‘Jesus replied, "Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them’ John 14.23 NIV. Obeying Jesus means receiving Him as our life and embracing His coming in our flesh. It is agreeing with Jesus that we are the manifestation of Him. We live in the company of the trinity and express their being. Thus Francois Du Toit writes, “The most significant and profound virtue of mankind is not their intellectual capacity, nor their technological skill or achievements, neither their advanced modern expression nor their eloquence, but the capacity of the individual to comprehend and reflect the impression and image and likeness of God! Your greatest feature is not your attractive face or your sexy body, nor your fame or fancy car, but his glory, his opinion reflecting in you! This persuasion becomes an awareness within you, which makes your life irresistibly attractive! We can afford ourselves the luxury to entertain the thoughts of God concerning us, exclusively. We are the god-kind by design! This is exactly what Jesus revealed and redeemed in human form, as in a mirror!” Thoughts For Life - February 27 (from my book, 'God Believes in You' - available in print and on Kindle)
