Here is a scripture that summarises the new covenant, is explicit about our inheritance in Christ, states what it means to be incarnated with the presence of Christ and warns about the folly of continuing the old covenant and the law into the post cross age.
“Through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!”
Firstly it is implied that if we are alive to the law we are not living for God. Who are we living for then? We are living a life of self-justification for ourselves. How do we live for God? Our Adam has been put to death in Jesus and Christ has risen in our being. How do I live this life? I live it by believing I do. What’s more I live in His life and in His believing since He is my life in every way.
I am not thrashing about in the old covenant attempting to put new wine in old bottles because I have a new life that is Christ my life.
