Some have talked of a holistic gospel. They are right to talk of it because the real gospel is holistic and always has been. There is no holism in the law. Neither is a moral program or a belief system holistic. What it is - is just another formulation of the knowledge of good and evil.
You can spend your entire life in the body not knowing this and end up in heaven with the Lord. But unfortunately you did not multiply much of what He left behind as your inheritance.
Because He did not leave you religion.
What Jesus gives to all is the new and living way of being you. ‘New as compared to what?’ New as compared to Adam. New as compared to your Adamic, old covenant life.
HE DRAWS US DEEPER INTO HIS LIFE
‘Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me’ John 14.6 NIV.
Jesus is the way of being you, the way of being the church and the way of being the Kingdom of God. Don’t expect to be a son in spirit and in truth, if you are tied to the law.
‘YOU ARE A HARD MAN’ I have heard people say that they are more content with a program than a life. ‘Christ our life’ is not for them. So they stick to their little perspective and their religious hopscotch as though this is the treasure in the field. It’s not. Christ our life is the treasure in the field and the pearl of great price – but sadly it is not possessed by these ideologues. Richard Rohr writes,
ONE LUMP, ONE LOAF
“In the fourteenth century, the inspired, anonymous author of The Cloud of Unknowing taught that God in Christ dealt with sin, death, forgiveness, and salvation “all in one lump.” It is a most unusual, even homely, phrase, but for me, this corporate and mystical reading of history contributes to the unitive vision we are seeking, as we try to understand the Universal Christ. Jesus by himself looks like an individual, albeit a divine individual, but the Christ is a compelling image for this “one-lump” view of reality.”
We are not a concoction of the knowledge of good and evil with Jesus help. Because He is our life we are whole. We are one lump rather than a bunch of breadcrumbs trying to be virtuous.
There’s no hoops to jump through here. He is totally your life – the vicarious humanity of Christ leaves no link for you to forge by yourself. You are whole in Him. What is wholeness called in the Bible? The sons and daughters of God.
