Christ Your life

His Kingdom multiplied through you

Let’s not be so naïve to think that everything that happens to us is the Lord’s will. I overheard Joe talking to his friend Bill before they went on their mission trip to Thailand. The team was almost made up - then an unexpected person joined. Jill Merriweather (not her real name) wanted to go too. “We’ll just accept whoever the Lord gives us’ quipped Mary Hoset, the leader of the team. But the Lord had not given Jill to us. She had given herself. ‘The anointing’ is not slip-shod and the result of what is. But it is the result of union with God.

Jesus did what Father was doing – always. Not because He received ‘a word.’ But because He and Father were one. This is our fellowship, our union today when we live in our new covenant inheritance.

We can walk precisely in the will of God when Jesus is our life. Here we are led by the Spirit of God as daughters and sons. We are
living out the Spirit of Sonship. This is not just a sincere religious life of Christian labour. We are led by the Spirit of God because Jesus is our life and we are part of the trinity as the family of God. We are not divine, but we are sons who belong.

'For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God' Rom 8.14 NIV.

We can do better than experience grace filling the gaps in fleshly pragmatism. Just as Jesus moved about in Palestine under the direction of the Spirit of God so the Believer is privileged to move in the Spirit of Christ in her/his daily tasks and projects.

This assumes more than a sincere religious purpose or labouring for a cause or an organisation. It assumes the intimacy with Jesus and the union with God that is the inheritance of the sons and daughters of God. This is the ‘
may they be one as we are one’ inheritance that is ours as daughters and sons.

‘He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant--not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life’ 2 Cor 3.6 NIV.

This is the new covenant reality in which Jesus Himself is personally our life and the life of our co-labourers. Here our labour is easy and our burden light because we are sons and we continually walk through open doors or have the spiritual discernment to avoid closed ones. The Kingdom flows out of the new covenant. Never from the old.

Jesus lived at the sharp end of the Kingdom. His days were His Father's days and therefore the days of a son. Every activity was inspired by His Father. There was no wasted activity, no scatter-gun approach. Every task was on target and filled with divine life. The writer of Hebrews
observation is cogent here. 'For the word of God [ in you] is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.' Here there is sharp discernment and on target ministry.

You have probably endured talks that were marinated in the spirit of death. Jesus' words were alive with the life of God. His activities were also divinely appropriate in the plan of God. Always spot on, they were both timely and fruitful performing that for which they were intended from before the foundation of the world. This is the life of a Son of God. With His Spirit in you, you live in the spirit of Sonship and you minister this life.

'The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father' Romans 8.14 NIV.

The ministry of Jesus and Paul was simple, authoritative and powerful, flowing from the grace of God and in the case of Paul, of
Christ in Him.

'For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory' Col 3.3,4 NIV.
