Who we think we are, conditions who we can become. Should we be so fortunate as to see ourselves as much loved daughters and sons of God, we will do better than if we see ourselves as the effect of a belief system or an attempt at keeping the law. This is to say that all who live out of Jesus will be more alive and multiply more life than any who live out of Christianity. Just be sure that ‘your Jesus’ is Father’s Jesus and Holy Spirit’s Jesus - that He is who He is and not your personal construct or a stereo-type you have picked up from institutionalism. Jesus will reveal Himself to any who wish to know Him for Himself.
You are a person because the trinity is personal and it is they who birthed you. If you think the law and the keeping of it is the chief issue – the core of the universe, you will be less a person and more a thing – an abstraction.
If you behold yourself in the mirror that is Jesus you will be propelled into the fullness of your person by seeing who you are and who you can become in the person of Jesus Christ. Who we are is what we think we are in our hearts. If the god we have imagined is seen to be obsessed with the law, he will be a lesser god and we will be lesser people – shrivelled in being and a minus quantity of spirit and life. What is the chief effect of living from the law in the new covenant age? It’s a dead soul and spirit.
CHRIST OUR LIFE
Some Believers keep the commandments because they love Jesus. But they would bless Him more and be better off themselves by loving Him by inviting Him to be their life.
‘I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!’ Gal 2.21 NIV.
God is not obsessed with Himself or with conforming to standards. His passion is life and His obsession is you! God is defined as the trinity – three persons, each with a distinct identity, each celebrating each other and each revelling in their community of life, love and joy. The engine room of love is the Family of God. This Family lives in you and by your agreement will impart its nature to you. This is who we live in the flow of the spirit of sonship instead of in bits and pieces of good and evil.
This Family lives in you with the purpose of affirming you and imparting who they are to who you are and who you are becoming. You are indeed a son/daughter of God.
William Paul Young writes, “God doesn’t have a low view of humanity, because God knows the truth about us. God is not fooled by all the lies we have told ourselves and each other. Jesus is the truth about who we are—fully human, fully alive. Deeper than all the hurt and broken bits and pieces is a “very good” creation, and we were created in the image and likeness of God. But we have become blind in the deceit-darkness we believe. It is time for us to stop agreeing with these devastating lies instead of surrendering to them; it is time to “burn the white flag!” (1)
The white flag is our surrender to the notion that we are no good and separated from God and ourselves by our ‘no-goodness.’ But we came from God. We have been made one with God and we belong. Live from your fellowship with God and be who you are: A unique son/daughter who multiplies rivers of spirit and life.
