A life in God is more easily accessible and far simpler than most of us have been taught. This is because of the great fact of the post cross age: The incarnation. What is the incarnation? It is the manifestation of the trinity by the Spirit in you and in us.
By a prophetic act at the hand of Abraham, God signalled in times past that He would be the sacrifice and the life. He staid Abraham’s hand and drew his attention to the ram in the thicket. Here was a portent of the Lamb that takes away the sin and death of the world and replaces it with wholesomeness and life that lasts forever.
We would do well to be alert to myriad practises that have no bearing on our interwoveness with God whatsoever. Living in the incarnation, which is your union with God is fruitful in the micro and the macro. You become spirit and life.
This life is accessible because it is God who takes the initiative and it is God who becomes our life as the fullness of grace. We are forgiven, made one with God and transfused with His Person by the Spirit. It’s as simple as this, as Athanasius put it,
‘God passed into man so that man might pass over to God.’ (1)
